Blwetorch: Meant to add--you'd really be better off starting your own thread since your questions are different than the OP's . . . .

Sure

Do not, I repeat, do NOT rent a car in London. You'll do fine with the Tube and train to Bath - it's very easy.

"<i>You'll do fine with the Tube and train to Bath - it's very easy.</i>" I agree they 100000% don't want a car, but they won't be staying near a tube line. So their journey will be more complicated.

You certainly have the knack for seeing things clearly.

You cannot do all that - the Tower takes up the better part of a full day...and the same for Greenwich... Windsor Castle (not palace) is pretty far...and ditto on staying in zone 1 or 2.

My recommendations for a short 3-day visit:

1. The Tower - my only "can't miss" item.

2. Westminster Abbey...you might also visit St. Paul's, but if you only have time for one, the Abbey would be my choice...unless you feel you'll get a lot of gothic churches elsewhere along your trip. You could also drop in on one of the other Wren churches in London...such as St. Bride's.

3. A boat cruise from one to the other.

4. British Library...I picked this over the British Museum from personal experience - I've been to several other museums with some similar things (Vatican Museum, U. Pennsylvania M., Louvres)...but the Brit. Library has stuff you just can't find in one place anywhere else. You may hit the Vatican or Louvre on your trip.

5. One art museum depending on taste - Nat. Gallery for old masters, Tate for British 18th & 19th c, Tate Modern for 20th c. My taste? National Gallery is best, Modern is worst.

6. A walk (from a popular tourbook such as Fodors) from Parliament Sq to Trafalgar Sq.

Read my special 2-for-1 voucher thread:

http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...pon-thread.cfm

It covers the Tower. Print the vouchers out before you leave.

Thank you! WE are boarding the plane in 12 hrs and are going to risk the trains with 2 big backpacks and a suitcase (we will leave with family once we get to Holland); thanks for the help--now wish us luck!!!

You'll be fine. Just remember: Hammersmith-Westminster-Canning Town.

Hi Chantelle, I realize you might be gone and on the plane already but relax and enjoy and have a great time. This is YOUR adventure, not anybody else's. It will still be great.

If you don't have time to stand in line to get into westminster Abbey, you could go for a service through a different entrance. You don't get access to all the touristy parts and don't get the headphones, but you get to see the inside of the Cathedral.
