2 days in Dresden, Enough ?

Hi we are (family of 4 2 kids 4 and 8 yeard old) will be in Dresden next summer. We will arriuve from berlin in the morning. and we plan to stay 2 nights (so something like a day in a half in Dresden). We plan to visit old town (and maybe the military museum) and we also want to go to Bastei. Is it doable in the time we have ? Our kids are not very agile/patient/ good walkers. What would be the best way to get to the bastei with them ?

Thanks !

Visiting Dresden's old town doesn't take all day. It feels kind of big (big buildings) but doesn't really take that long to explore other than visiting museums.

You can take the S-Bahn (local train) out to the Saxon Switzerland National Park from Dresden to get to Bastei. But you will need to do a lot of hiking up to get up there. It's not a particularly difficult hike but might take you a while with the young kids. You get off the train, take a ferry across the river, walk through the little town, and then hike up the trails to the top.

If all you want to do is the day trip to Bastei and explore Dresden's old town, two days is probably adequate.

Sounds like the right amount of time for what you plan to do, but of course you could spend much more time there and not get bored.

You take the S1 from Dresden Hauptbahnhof to Pirna, then the Bus 237 to the Bastei. Then, you are right on top of the mountain and close to the viewpoint.
