2 days in Basel, Switzerland

Have a Sunday and Monday in May to spend in Basel or surrounding areas. Any suggestions on tours or areas to visit to get the most out of visiting Switzerland? Also, how far is the airport from the city (Drei Konige Hotel) and how would one get there? Inerested in tours from Basel to other cities, if possible.

Rosalie..go to tourist office in the train station or the main office on the river, not far from hotel for info.Basel is a great museum city (20+) - most are free on Sundays, but the Kuntsmuseum (art) will cost. The zoo is great.Basel/Mulhouse airport about 20-30 min. (in France). Zurich just over an hour train ride.Train to Bern for a day...many shops, sights...see the bears. There are day cruises on the Rhine, eg, down to Rheinfelden and back. Rheinfelden is a nice walking town.France and Germany join Switzerland in Basel...ask tourism people about short trips across the border...and go to the point on the Rhine where the three countries join.
Hope this helps.

Michael,
Thanks for the suggestions. I will be going from Amsterdam to Basel on a ship but I want to stay two extra days to see the Alps etc. I'm told I should also go to Alsace. I assume I can hook up with a day tour to do that. At least I hope so. Have a friend in Chiasso on the Italian border but I don't know if I have enough time to get there and back before I have to fly out at 7am in the morning. I hate to wait until I get there to make plans but it is probably best to be flexible which is why I asked for suggestions. Thanks again.

The zoo is worth a visit - they have a great pair of pigmy hippos.... Really, it is a nice zoo and can be done in half a day. A sunny day train ride to Zurich is nice, but there's a lot to do once you get there.

I would go up the Rhine by train to Stein-am-Rhein. It is a little town filled with painted houses and a great square surrounded with painted houses and sidewalk cafes. There is also a delightful doll museum. But only go if the weather is good - there is no place to go in the rain.

Thanks for responding. We will be coming down the Rhine. Is it possible we will already stop there? I would like to see the Alps and would like to hook up with a good tour. Unfortunately I will not get into Basel in time to catch a two-day (Sat. and Sun.) tour.
