2 days in Avignon
Two of us are staying in Avignon for 2 days and want help with an itinerary.
We aren't planning on renting a car (taking a train in from Paris and out to Nice). Any suggestions? |
If you're staying only 2 days in Avignon you don't really need an itinerary, just a guidebook for the town. In that period of time you should be able to see just about everything of interest.

Also you can go to Villeneuf Le Avignon which is 'up the hill' and about a 10 minute drive or bus ride. It is much smaller and has a nice fort and some other sights, along with some good restaurants.

Nina, not to nit pick, but more accurately Villeneuve-lez-Avignon is across the Rhone. It is a very charming village, and I also recommend it as somewhere to stay.

Grandmere, you beat me to it. I came back to this post to correct my spelling - Villeneuve-Lez-Avignon. Never try to spell by memory - especially if it is an old memory ;-)
Also I should have said, as you so correctly pointed out, it is across the Rhone. I knew that but because we walked back one day, across the bridge and up, up, up for about 3-5 miles (?), I think of it as being 'up the hill' from Avignon. That was a long, hot walk. It was also 20 years ago - I know that I couldn't do it now ;-) Constructive nit picking is always welcome - it's the other kind that gets my goat. Nina |
I think that you can see very well Avignon et Villeneuve in one day.
You said that you are not tihnking in renting a car but I strongly reccommend to do it just for one day and visit the Luberon. The landscape is very nice and the small villages like Gordes, Menerbes, Goult, Lacoste,... fantastic. Vineyards and good restaurants too. For me staying in Avignon and not visiting the Luberon is like being next to a paradise and avoid it. However, that's just an opinion. |
Totally agree with Alex. Rent a car for a day.
