2 day Itinerary for Lake Como?

On the counsel that I received from an earlier post at this site . . . we're leaving Venice to go to Lake Como for a two day, two nite side trip. I anticipate staying at Hotel Eremo Gaudio. Other than that, can anyone suggest a good two day itinerary? Looking less for culture, more for activities, restaurants. Thanks in advance.

I don't know where Eremo Gaudio is - - "mid-lake"? You can while way the better part of a day (or two) just meandering Bellagio, less so Varenna and/or Menaggio.

Beyond that, I recommend some time ON the lake, which could/should include your access to Villa Balbianiello (no straightforward access other than by boat). Villa Carlotta (Tremezzo) is also recommended by many.

And a special combination of dining and "outing" is Locanda Comacina on the island of the same name. See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34575794

Best wishes,

Rex

I beleive that the Eremo Gaudio is outside of Varenna, up high and possibly in the direction of Fumilatte (Sp?).

If you study the boat schedules, you might see the 11:45 boat from Bellagio to Lecco. It arrives in Lecco at 13:00. It leaves Lecco at 14:00. All of the lake is nice from the boats but this is as good a trip as any.

Other than lunch spots, I have very little restaurant experience other than our hotel.

With less than 2 days, and I presume no car, I would stay in Varenna and not that far outside.

I agree with bobthenavigator. Stay in Varenna or Bellagio. With such a short stay, you want to be close to the ferries.

In Varenna there are castle ruins on a hill above the town. The ruins aren't impressive, but there is a falconry located on the grounds. The keeper releases birds several times during the day, and you can speak to him (in English) about their care and training.

I highly recommend the Bilacus Ristorante in Bellagio. Reservations required (ask your hotel to call for you).

I, too, would recommend Bilacus.
As for things to see, there is more than enough in Varenna, neighboring Tremezzo and Bellagio to fill up two days.
