2-3 Star Accommodation in Dordogne
 

As part of our 26-day France trip, we are spending 3 nights in the Dordogne area. As most of our trip will be spent in cities, we would like to spend these three days in a country setting that is central to the area. Any recommendations for a 2-3 star accommodation, e.g. 50 - 70 euros for a double?

Thank you for responses. St-Cirq - I contacted the hotels mentioned - their websites were informative. However, their prices are a little more than I wanted to spend. Now down to two: Hotel du Chateau in Beynac and Nineyrol (outside Beynac) B&B. The one outside the town is very quiet, however, may be more interesting in town. Would there be much street/traffic, hotel/restaurant noise at the Chateau in town?

What time of year are you going there? If it's high season, the traffic through Beynac will be daunting and yes, you'll probably hear it from the hotel. There's only one extremely narrow road between the lower town and the river, and all summer long the traffic backs up there. Also, the hotel has a busy restaurant/café and is at exactly the spot where all the tourists cross into town from the parking lot - so you'll probably get a lot of street noise as well.

I recommend Residence Versailles. We stayed last year and found this B&B to be very beautiful, breakfasts are outstanding and the views across the valley spectacular. They are located on the outskirts of Beynac but within walking distance (2 minutes). It is away from all of the traffic noise yet convenient for visiting the area. Make sure you ask for a room with a view.

We will be there mid-May. Thanks for detailed description. I'll look into the other suggestions. The website will help because I couldn't find Laborderie. I definitely want a quiet spot so thanks again. I'll keep looking.

Grimmy's advice is right on the mark. We stayed at this same B & B in early July and it was fantastic. The couple that own it are very hospitable. The wife is a former Parisian chef, and an amazing cook. You couldn't have a more wonderful view with Castelnaud off in the distance. The price is right as well. Highly recommend it!
