1st time to Paris
 

My husband and I will be visiting Paris June 03-11. Could anyone suggest a list of things to do and see for a first time visitor?
Also, what would be the best items to pack in the suitcase to wear?

Wow, you're leaving in less than two weeks and don't know what to take or what to see? I hope this trip got sprung on you, either that or you're one heckuva procrastinator! ;)

I'd head on down to the bookstore and buy Rick Steves Europe Through The Back Door. It has a packing list (even one with extra tips for women), and a list of "must see" stuff. He also publishes a Paris 2005 book this year, and I'm going in September and already studying up. If you live in the sticks, get it on Amazon.com and have them send it to you pronto.

I recommend you get at least those two guidebooks, and read up quick. You should not go to Paris unprepared!

Take your comfy clothes and walking shoes, and don't miss seeing The Mona Lisa at The Louvre, Ste. Chappelle and Notre Dame, and a ride up the Eiffel Tower of course...

People here are very willing to help, but you need to do a little reading and narrow things down a bit as to what you want to see.

What to pack in the suitcase to where?
Whatever you like, but at least let me recommend a pair of very comfortable shoes for each of you.

Is this for real?
Do you have a place to stay?
Like a hotel?

I hate to sound like I am being petulant, but do you anything at all about Paris?
As in why are you going there?

Just because I plan obsessively for weeks doesn't mean everyone approaches travel like I do. don't let anyone make you feel bad about asking your questions.
Take some time to read all the current Paris posts so you can get an idea of what people are up to these days in Paris. You'll get a ton of ideas. Check daily- like with your morning coffee. Get ready to print a lot.
I'd start with a good map of Paris. Pinpoint your hotel, then look at where the major sights and museums are. They should be clearly marked. Try to get a feel for the layout of the city.
Make a list of things that interest you. Art? History? Shopping? Nightlife?Come back to the board and ask more specific questions. Like- "what's a good place for lunch near the Louvre?" or "where should I shop for antique jewelery near Notre Dame?" Try to plan your activities near to each other to avoid a lot of running across town.
Also- try Trip Advisor, there's a ton of good stuff there too.
