1st Time to Marbella

Am leaving in two weeks for Marbella for eight days. Would appreciate any advice for day trips. Am considering Granada, Ronda, Gilbaltor, Morocco, Nerja, a day each. Is this too much? Thanks.

I would definitely skip the Morocco part of the trip. I have been to Morocco and think it is a wonderful and scenic country, but Tangier is propably the very worst part, a port city, unattractive, sleezy. Personally, I'd skip spending a full day even going to Gibraltar. You are going to a beautiful part of Spain, so enjoy it.

I have read that about Morocco on this board, but we are traveling with a large group and they all seem pretty set on Morocco. (I tend to agree with you) As far as a day in Gibraltar, wouldn't it be worth it to see Alhambra Palace and gardens? Also, does anyone have any comments on the Marbella Playa Hotel? Thanks again.

Whooops!!! Told you I needed help! Just realized after I typed that last reply that Alhambra is in Granada, not Gilbraltar. Sorry.

A full day at Alhambra is definitely worth it. If you have no choice about going to Morocco, do you have any choices? Also, why do you have to go with the rest of the group to Morocco?

I can stay in Marbella while the others go to Morocco. Based on the information on this board about Morocco, I am pretty sure I will do that but join them for the Granada trip. We have eight days to do pretty much what we want, it is just that they wanted to do several things together as a group.

If you finish Ronda early enough, we really enjoyed wandering around the White Villages, especially Sentenil de las Bodegas. I gave my maps away so I don't recall how long it took to get to this area, but we really loved walking through the small villages. They are less of a tourist attraction and more of real life in the small communities than your other destinations. My hunch is your group will not like the idea, but if you have the option it is worth considering.

Hi,

Years ago I went to Spain with my family and we took a day excursion to Morocco. I know it is not the best of Morocco, but it was an experience that I still recall vividly in my mind. It is a different culture. We went on a bus ride around the country side outside of Tangiers plus into the market area. I would recommend it, if you like differences. Go to Ronda and of coarse Granada. I do not know about the others. We rented a car and drove to these places from the Marbella area. Everyday we went somewhere in the morning and were back by 2:00 or 3:00 to sit by the sea and rest.Of coarse Morrocco was an all day affair.

Have fun!!
