1936 First Fodor's Travel Guide to Europe

This is very interesting. It is like a little bit of history of Europe from 1936.

Thanks for posting, Marycang. I've downloaded and flipped through a few sections. What a mixed bag of information.

The author of the portion on France sounds like a total a&&. Much of his/her musings are, at best, politically incorrect and, at worst, racist or xenophobic.

On the other hand, the advice for Italy would be somewhat helpful to a current-day visitor (although the comments on Mussolini and "the very attractive" fascist salute nearly caused me to spit out my coffee).

The description of the love for uniforms in Hitler's Germany gave me the creeps, notwithstanding the reassurance of the author that "the friendly jeweller ... declared in every second sentence that no one in Germany desires war." Hmmm. Just two year before Hitler got busy.
