18 hour layover at Heathrow

Greetings:

My name is Cheryl and Im from Los Angeles, preparing to venture out to India for the first time and by myself - yippee! I'm new to this site and was needing some ideas, thoughts, recommendations etc for my layover at Heathrow.

I am arriving into Heathrow on Wednesday April 12th at 2:30 in the afternoon and the second half of my flight is Thursday morning at 10:30am, not sure if I go through customs or not here so I am free after that and would be at the airport presumably by 8:30am

Thoughts of what to do like a City Tour and perhaps a place to get some shut eye for a couple hours (other than the airport) and best way to move about i.e. tube, taxi, bus

You will have to go through UK immigration and customs as you can't stay airside overnight.

Therefore you will need to find somewhere to sleep overnight, I would suggest somewhere on the Piccadilly Line between South Kensington and Heathrow rather than a hotel "at" the airport (most are off-site)

Realistically you wouldn't be in central London much before 5:00pm, later if you have to collect luggage and check into a hotel. You may find the best option is to take the Tube to Westminster station, leave by the Bridge Street exit then have a wander around the centre of political and Royal Britain with the possibility of a ride on the London Eye if the weather is decent. Then find some food and go back to your hotel.

Hi Cheryl from Los Angeles.

dotheboyshall has some good advice.

Agree.

Find a hotel somewhere near Gloucester Road or South Kensington tube stations. Check with your airline if 2 hours in advance is enough for your flight to India. It probably is, but Heathrow is a big airport, and security has been stepped up recently.
