18 days in Spain
 

So far I have 4 nights in Barcelona( to side trip to Montserrat )and the last three in Madrid. We fly into Barcelona and out of Madrid.

I am interested in:
Girona
Toledo
Seville
Gibraltar
Granada

too much, too little???

Love architecture,history, want to see the Dali and Picasso museums, but am stymied on hw to piece together my middle 10 nights. Willing to drive, prefer train

Girona is a day trip from Barcelona. I would scratch Montserrat unless you have religous reasons for going there. And you can scratch Gibraltar - the line going in and coming out is hours long. Add Cordoba.

Your post is tagged Slovenia. Perhaps the editors can change it to Spain.

I agree with Bedar that you should skip Gibraltar. Nothing good unless you like monkeys all over you.

Montserrat is beautiful. Geez, all of Spain has religious overtones, it's hard to miss.

The Dali museum is in Figueres, which is 90 minutes from Barcelona so if you also see Girona and Montserrat (you don't have to go just for religious reasons) you have 3 day trips and should probably have 5 days in Barcelona, especially since one is the arrival day.

Toledo is day trip from Madrid and Segovia would make another good day trip - both are under 40 minutes away by high speed train and if you like art and architecture Madrid has some of the best of both, like the Thyssen-Bornemissa and the Prado. It is 4 hours via train from Barcelona so maybe another 4-5 days.

Granada, including Alhambra can be seen comfortably in 2 days and Seville is worth 4 if only to lounge around in it's splendour for 1 of those.

That leaves you with roughly 3 days left. Are you aware that Picasso was born in Malaga and they have a museum there?

Adding Malaga might make sense as it holds enough interest for 3 days and allows you to see some of the coast, like Nerja, if you choose.

Alternately you could add those days to Cordoba, but I think it works best as a day trip from Seville (50 mins).

Granada is the toughest spot to plan around, logistically. All the rest are connected via high speed AVE trains.

Thank you for the input, I have been pondering time in Sevilla ...and luxury is definitely a plus.
