16 year olds birthday in Sicily

we are arriving in Sicily on a Sunday on a cruise ship. It happens to be my son's 16th birthday. Any special places we shouldn't miss and anything REALLY special for a 16 year old's birthday?

Hi debmc58, you have two other post about a son who will turn 19 while you are all in Rome. I assume this is another son? I don't take cruises but I would think the cruise line would be able to help you plan something special for this soon to be 16 year old son.

Where are you going to be in Sicily when you dock and for how long? I agree that the cruise line will probably have something.

Thanks for the replies. We will be in Palermo. And yes, we have two birthdays to celebrate. I will contact the cruiseline, but I thought if there was a really neat restaurant or place to go to as a "surprise" (although the whole trip will be a surprise for us!), that would be nice.

He may want to legally go to a bar and drink a beer - legal drinking age of 16 i believe in Italy for beer and wine.

I am not sure of the exact date that a teen can drink in Italy but I do know our daughter was served wine when she was 17 years old in Italy. Noone ever asked for an ID regarding her age.

But debmc58 you may not want your son to drink wine or beer on his sixteenth birthday. I would think doing a search here on Fodor's regarding Palermo or perhaps on the website www.slowtrav.com/italy/ might give you some good ideas for a special place for your sons 16th birthday celebration. Best wishes!!!
