Where to Stay in Copenhagen? Nyhavn or closer to Trivoli area?

We are traveling in summer for 2 nights to Copenhagen and we found a few hotels in Nyhavn we liked (adimiral, scandic front, bethlehem) but someone told us this was not best location as it is way too touristy and not central. We are early 30 couple who like nice areas that are either quaint or funky/artsy.

Should we stay in another area?

Things we want to do in our 3 days 2 night trip. hang out by nyhavn restaurants/bars, go to trivoli for 2 hours we are not amusment park people but heard its must see at night, go to shopping areas and stroget and any other suggested cute ares, see the castle, take a canal tour, and visit other areas that are spunky with cool hip restaurants/bars not sure where to do this. Go to Christiania for brief stroll.

Any suggestions on location that is best? And where to get a hotel?

We stayed in both areas and by far preferred nyhavn! Very lively and fun but could be loud if that bothers you. The Tivoli area was also ok so you can't go wrong really.

We have stayed in various areas - and the center of the city isn;t that big. Once near Nyhaven (Admiral - OK) once at D'Angleterre - at end of Stroget and once near the Town Hall (near Tivoli).

I would definitely plan on more than 2 hours at Tivloi - it's not just an amusement park - there are lots of gardens, games and carnival activities, a ton of interesting restaurants, band concerts and fireworks - but not til midnight - since it;s not dark til then in summer.

Whether you stay at Nyhavn and walk the Stroget all the way to the Tivoli or vice versa really does nor make that much different

..if you found a nice hotel at either end
then book it.

You need a full afternoon at the Tivoli and then go again at night when it is lit up.

Throughly enjoyed staying at this hotel for four days. It is conveniently located within easy
walking distance of the central part of the city, restaurants, canal trips, and shopping. The
hotel staff were very friendly. We arrived way too early due to early ship disembarkation, but
the staff were gracious courteous and very hospitable. Our luggage was stored away, and
we were invited to relax in the "lobby" or "community room" with free wi-fi and free coffee
and cookies which were available daily. Our room and bath were clean but not lavish. The bed was comfortable. The breakfasts were exceptionally good and selection was plenteous.
Throughout the entire stay we had only one complaint: tissues (Kleenex) were not made available anyplace within the hotel. Not a major issue but the only one during our stay.
My wife and I highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again on our next visit.

All in all: good location; clean; hospitable staff; wonderful breakfasts; free wi-fi; and
coffee and cookies available throughout the day

If you go for - or even after dinner - that's enough - since it will still be light then. You can see the gardens etc - and check when the various free performances will be - and that stay for fireworks at midnight.
