15 Hour Layover in Zurich, Switzerland - October 27th

Hey readers of the forums,

I am traveling to Barcelona, Spain for a 7 night Mediterranean Cruise through France and Italy, October 17th-27th.

On my way back, I have a 15 hour layover in Zurich, Switzerland. I will arrive at 9:40 PM and leave again at 1:15 PM.

Zurich Airport appears to be 20 miles away or so from the center of town. Realistically, is there anything I can do? Is there nightlife to be had at a late hour? Assuming it's probably around 11:00 PM local time, once I deplane, go through Immigration, and collect my baggage?

Additionally, what about places to stay? I have not researched the airport that much, aside from the fact I know I can rent a "dayroom" for about 45 euros overnight, and then pay 15 euros for a shower.

Any recommendations would be fantastic. I am planning on getting to the airport around 10:00 am - to allow myself plenty of time to go through security, get my ticket, etc. I am not too worried about sleep - I want to be able to experience (some of) Zurich while I am "in town".

Thank you in advance!

Eric

Switzerland is not known for late night revelry. although there are undoubtedly some places that are open later - many restaurants close at 10 pm and streets are usually VERY quiet after 11.

The airport to Hauptbahnhof train station is about 15 minutes.
You can store your luggage in lockers, I believe, at either place. Under the Haubtbahnhof is an extensive array of shops, cafes and eateries, some open late.
In terms of the next morning anyway, you can walk from the HB at the northern end of the city, along the River to Zurichsee, at the south end of the city in under 30 minutes.
The famous Grossmunster and Fraumunster are on opposite sides of the river. Look at zurich.com for nightlife in the area of the HB.
