15 Days trip to Greece

We are planning to go to Greece in September for +/- 15 days. We wanted to combine in land and islands. We thought Athens, Delphi, Olympia or may something else..? And fly to Santorini, Crete, visit Mykonos ...and/or any other island(s) you can recommend? any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
We are a little lost.

Thank you so much!!!

With 15 days, you will probably want to trip your wish list a bit. ;-)

If you don't already have a good guidebook, I'd recommend the Rough Guide. The cost will be nominal in comparison to the cost of your trip, you will end up with a wealth of information at your fingertips, and you will learn things that you would never even think to ask.

In the meantime, you might find some useful information in my trip report:

Greece is delightful -- enjoy!

I like your idea of combining mainland and islands, but also feel you should trim your itinerary. You could use a week for Athens + Nafplio/Argolis area, also taking in Delphi: http://visitnafplio.com

For the other week, Santorini, Crete, and Mykonos is too much. In any case, if you fly to Santorini, Crete and Mykonos are in opposite directions. Recommend either the whole week in Crete, or Santorini and one other island. I happen to like Mykonos, especially since it's so easy to reach Delos from there.

There are other islands even easier to reach from Santorini that are much nicer than Mykonos, IMO. Naxos is only two hours by conventional ferry from Santorini, and Paros an hour more. Paros has the island of Antiparos next door, so easy to reach that people commute for work and school from one to the other. Antiparos has a famous stalactite cave, and an important archaeological site at the uninhabited island of Despotiko, similar to Delos but in early stages of excavation.

Whatever you do, spend the last night or two in Athens before you fly home. To avoid splitting your time in Athens it would be wise to fly straight to Santorini upon arrival in Greece, doing the islands first.

You haven't specified why or what you want from your Greek Experience. You have chosen some of the most popular and over-the-top touristy destinations in Greece.

If that is what you want then you'll be OK, especially September which is off season, but you'll still have lots of tourists at the destinations you inquired about.

There are lots of other options available but you'll have to do more research on your part.

If you want nightlife, partying, laying around on beaches, shopping then those places you mentioned will fit the bill.

If you want a more "traditional" and "Greek" experience then you may want to look elsewhere.

Thank you for your response. We definitely not looking for nightlife. We want to stop by the beach at some point. We are more interested in ancient history and definitely more Greek experience.
