15 August - Ascension Day public holiday

Are restaurants open on 15 August being a public holiday? I note that most supermarkets/shops only open half day.

Actually, it's the feast of the assumption, not the ascension. Different body.

You don't say which European country you are asking about, but it's a popular holiday in Italy. Restaurants in holiday spots will be open.

I see the message is tagged for France, and certainly in the Dordogne area the restaurants will be open. In this and other holiday areas, although banks, post offices, and business offices will be closed, anything catering to tourists will be open.

Oh! Sorry I didn't see the tag.

Most major stores are now open on holidays in France. Some eating establishments will be closed, not necessarily because it is the 15th but because they are closed for 2 or 3 weeks. But you won't have any problem finding a meal, not to worry!

Pls excuse my ignorance and thanks for correcting me.

I have since made several enquires at restaurants in Burgundy, most of them stay open.
