14 Days in Spain, driving
 

I've never been to Spain before.
My husband and I are planing a trip for the last 2 weeks of October. We like to drive a lot and that's what we do in each country we visit.
We would like to see as much as we can of Spain in 14 days.
We'll be flying in to Madrid and one place we want to go to is La Coruna. We could fly out of there since we're flying with miles.
Any suggestions out there?

First, do not keep a car while in Madrid.

Second, check the prices on Vueling and Easyjet. There will also be flights from Santiago.

If you do not have relatives in A Coruna, you can see the sights very quickly. As a city Santiago is much more interesting.

Iberia is usually the most expensive and you may consider flying back from London, if you are in Galicia.

How much time have you got for the trip?
Do you have to fly from A Coruña? Santiago has far more options if you are flying back to Madrid.

With 14 days in October, you can follow a route that will take you from Madrid north to Navarra and the Rioja for the fall colors (if it's late enough in the month), the beech forest of northern Navarra (the Irati beech forest is the second largest in Europe) and the vineyards of the Rioja.

If you're interested in good food and wine, then the first stop along the way would be in the Ribera del Duero, about 1-1/2 hours north of Madrid. From you can then hop on up to the Rioja and Navarra. After exploring some of Navarra you cross into the Basque country and continue along the north coast (beautiful anytime of the year), finally ending up in A Coruña.

Its an interesting drive, but you'll need to plan your route to make the most of your time and be sure to make hotel reservations ahead of time. No need to waste a part of a day trying to find somewhere to spend the night when you have such little time to spare.
