14 Day Euro Trip Vienna, Prague, Berlin - call for things to do / see
 

So my better half and I just booked our first trip to Europe - we are spending 4+ full days in Vienna, 4+ full days in Prague, and 3+ full days in Berlin. We are hoping for some insight for those that have "been there, done that" so to speak. From what I've seen the Biking Wine Tour adventure from Vienna is a must do - also there is Design Week going on in Vienna that week and my g/f is a designer so we are most likely going to visit that.

All help is requested:
-Museums
-Restaurants
-Day Trips
-Hotels
-Anything I haven't thought of.

I just returned from a tour and stayed at the Hotel Hilton in Vienna It was very nice. We also went to the Shuburn Castle(??) where the Hapsburgs lived Beautiful grounds and wonderful tour. You have to get tickets in the a.m. for an p.m tour. It gets very busy. The huge square is a popular place a lot of shopping and cafes. You have to get pastries and a coffee. they are known for there coffee.

Prague is beyond beautiful. It is the most gorgeous place ever. I loved it there it is like a fairytale storybook land. You can get a walking tour. If you are interested in history, it is well worth it. There is also a luncheon cruise on the river that is nice to take. walk across St. Charles bridge. You will fall in love with Prague. I am sure there are many other things to do I was there for only 3 days. I shopped and purchased Garnet jewelry.

They also serve great Duck in Prague. That seems to be a popular meal.

I think diann24 means Schönbrunn Palace.

Start be getting a good guidebook or two! You'll learn all sorts of things that you wouldn't even know to ask and that we wouldn't necessarily think to tell you.

I loved the Library in Vienna, the Wachau valley trip and roaming around in the Hofburg palace areas in the evening. And the Rathaus..beautiful.
In PRague, visit the Schwarzenbersky museum, it's great.And climb all the towers foor brilliant views, you get a tower pass or something.

Are you going by train - if going only to those cities trains make the most sense - cars can be a liability in large cities like Vienna, Prague, etc - if taking the train check out these IMO fantastic sites for helping to get a fix on trains in Eastern Europe: www.seat61.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com.

As for day trips do NOT miss a day trip from Vienna to the nearby Wachau Valley as ashwinb recommends - train to Melk, boat to Durnstein, train back to Vienna.

Um, good luck seeing the Schonbrunn Palace while you're in Prague, other than by photo or video. The Palace is in Vienna.

To the OP: what interests YOU? Otherwise, regurgitating the top ten lists you could generate by your own google searching is a bit meaningless.

BigRuss, I said I stayed at the Hotel Hilton in Vienna where I saw the Schonbrunn Castle. I did not stay Prague at all.

Not sure if this is in the Wachau Valley or not but you can do you own boat ride and I believe boats also have bikes so you can bike from one dock to the next in this wonderful valley covered at many laces with vineyards - and wineries you could stop by.

To do this on your own take a train to Melk, tour the Uber famous abbey there - walk down to the Danube boat dock for boats thru the Wachau Valley - get off at say Durnstein, a cute wine town and one known for its ruined castle high above town where Richard-the-Lion-Hearted was once held for ransom -

then continue by boat or bus or foot even to Krems, a larger but pleasant city and then return to Vienna by train.

You can buy an all-inclusive ticket to cover trains, abbey admission and boat - buy it at the station in Vienna.

day trips you ask for Berlin - well with only three days I may think you'd have more than enough on your table in Berlin proper but a short easy day trip via S-Bahn goes to Potsdam and the Prussian Versailles - Sans Souci Palace and the huge neat park that surrounds it. Could be a half-day thing.

Dunstein is an adorable town. We were there and is known for Apricots. Everything is Apricots. it is a must see quaint place and such a pretty setting.

One short excursion from central Vienna, easily done by tram, is to visit one of the iconic famed Heuriger - or wine houses on the edge of Vienna and the Vienna Woods - wine is made from nearby vineyards in the taverns themselves and there is a festive atmosphere at night.

Something fun for all - even non-wine imbibers!

Like Durnstein, Melk also has apricots on the menu - my favourite was coffee with Marillenschnapps (apricot schnapps). Outside Vienna visit Melk - a pretty if nondescript town but a sensational, world-class abbey on the top of the hill. Our visit lasted the best part of the day (with several food stops). Fantastic!

On my walk from Durnstein to Krems I passed by some kind of apricot liqueur distillerie with a sweet aroma wafting out of it - so you can also drink apricots!
