13 days in England
Hi everyone,
This is very delayed but, thanks to all your help, we had a wonderful 13 days in England last September. We spent a few days in London, then onto the Goodwood Revival, Bath, and the Cotswolds. Too many highlights include the Wallace Collection, all the free London Museums, our National Trust Pass, Highclere Castle, Avebury, Goodwood, singing in Bath, Kelmscott Manor, Sezincote, Chipping Campden, the Slaughters, Castle Combe. We had a really great time! http://herewegoagain-england2016.blo...troduction.htm Cheers! NOLA |

Lovely write-up. I continue to think Salisbury Cathedral is the finest in the country and your photos support my view. All so much stone and iron tracery.
Your husband's "duh" remark was a bit unfair, while there is only one Thames in the UK, many rivers have the same name see "Stour" and "Avon" |
>>many rivers have the same name see "Stour" and "Avon"<<
Yep -- the Avon that runs through Bath is not the Avon in Stratford-upon-same . . . |
not surprising that many rivers are called "Avon" - it means river in Celtic.
Stour is more difficult to understand - apparently it means dust. great report, nola - and well written too . |
Interested to see you stayed in Havant. I worked there for five years back in the 70s before I wound up in the US. Never considered it as a tourist destination, lol, surprised you didn't base in Chichester instead.

Thanks for reading, everyone.
I don't feel so (very) dumb now about my Thames comment. :) We both really liked Salisbury Cathedral. It was crying out for a guide to tour us about. I liked it much more than Winchester. @thursdays-Goodwood Revival and Festival of Speed are sell-outs each year and it's really hard to get a place for two nights in Chichester. Eventhough I was looking 6 months in advance, almost every place was already booked. We felt lucky to land in Havant and really liked the harbor on the beautiful day we had there. |
