$120 or less for Paris hotel room

I will be traveling to Paris for the first time and would love to get some good reccomendations on hotels that charge, per night, no more than approximately $120 US dollars. I want to stay in the heart of the city, or at least in a district where I can walk for 5-10 minutes and be in the heart of the city. I'm looking for actual names of hotels, not websites to search -- I know all of those already. <BR>Does anyone know any great/good ones to recommend? <BR>Thanks in advance! Very much appreciated! <BR>Christina

My recommendation is, as this FORUM knows, Hotel Bersoly's, 28 rue Lille. It's 2 blocks from the Seine, 2 blocks from Musee D'Orsay, 3 blocks from the Louvre pyramid, a bit longer to St. Chapelle and Notre Dame, but very doable as well as 2-3 blocks from St. Germain. <BR>It runs about $116 Euros for a double with bath. The rooms are charming. The desk is very pleasant. It is in the antique store neighborhood adn there are wonderful restaurants, cafes and wine bars within easy reach. Here is a website: http://www.france-hotel-guide.com/h75007bersolys2.htm

I'll give you the advice that was given to me at this website. I stayed at the Best Western Trocadero. It's in the 16th arrondisement which is more of a residential area. There were bistros, supermarkets and shopping in the area. Very charming. THe metro stop was directly across the street, so I could go anywhere. The Eiffel Tower is a very quick walk across the bridge. I made my reservation on the web, put the copy of the confirmation in my bag, and they were expecting me. Front desk was very nice, room was small but clean with a nice bathroom. There was a breakfast buffet each day ($10). I was a single woman traveling alone, so safety, cleanliness and budget were my main requirements. It was not the Ritz, but I would definitely return. One note-I found out a double bed means 2 single beds pushed together. Just a funny bit of European travel education. Not a problem for a solitary female, so check. I went in November, the rates were $85/night.

Hi, Christina, <BR>A couple we've enjoyed, maybe at the high end of your range, but free breakfast helps... <BR>Hotel Verneuil St. Germain - on a quiet street in the 7th, just across the river from the Louvre and a 15 min. walk to the Orsay, 5 min. from all the action on Blvd. St. Germain. Small rooms but very charming; <BR>Hotel Mercure Paris Monty - in the 9th, not far from the Marais, Montmarte, Printemps...Nice small art deco hotel, part of the Mercure chain, glimpses of Sacre Coeur across the roofs. Fun neighborhood.

Christina, <BR>I may have been the one that steered Niki toward the Residence Hotel Trocadero, 3 Ave. Raymond Poincare - we stayed there last year and found it was one of the best locations we've every stayed at in Paris. Metro is right outside your door! (Trocadero Stop). The rooms are small (we had #22) but bathrooms were nice. We also had a side view of the Eiffel Tower. There are 2 cafe's (Cafe Trocadero & Cafe Malakoff)right at the doorstep too as well as as "tobacco shop". Of course it's right on the Trocadero so you can walk out and see the Eiffel Tower anytime! The breakfasts were decent, about $9 when we were there, but enough food so as you felt you left filled up. The staff were all nice and spoke English and there is an elevator (small one!). It's really an upscale area because a lot of the apartments around there are pretty pricey. You can also walk over into the Passy district which is lovely -- untouristy, very French and full of lovely streets, etc. Aside from the fact the the rooms are smallish I'd stay there again without a qualm. It's easy to make a reservation too, just use the BW website.

Hi there, s.fowler. Somehow I've missed your Paris hotel recommendation before but this time I GOT it. Checked it out on the web site (many thanks) and have bookmarked it to use on our next trip. I love the location and the place looks very inviting. Can't beat that price either. <BR>BTW, did you ever see the Macedonian film Before the Rain?

Hotel Beroly's is nice And yes ... I have seen "Before teh Rain" many times. The monastery in the film is Sveti Jovan Kaneo in Ohrid. Here is a picture I took of it along with a genral website I made about Macedonia: http://www.geocities.com/shrimp56/index.html <BR>My husband is presenting a paper in Skopje this summer comparing "Before the Rain" with Ismail Kadare's novel Broken April" [Kadare is the best known Albanian author - the novel is about blood feud.] <BR>The soundtrack for "Before the Rain" is by the well-known Macedonian group Anatasia and is fairly easily available in the US.

Margo from Hello Europe, why don't you go back there and stop trying to pitch your guide book suggestions on the Fodor's Forums? You're like some barnacle that's attached itself to a ship hull and will not be scraped off.

I'm afraid Margo never gives up. Perhaps if we all just ignore her she'll go away (I doubt that however). I've written to Fodor's about here twice and received 2 e-mails back saying they would look into the matter. I don't know if they have or not, but personally I'm tired of seeing her cut & paste input and I just skip over it. She could be recommending the best place on earth but I would not bother reading it at this point. She really needs to find another outlet to plug her wares.

I always recommend Regent's Hotel on Rue Madame a few blocks from Luxembourg Gardens. We paid about $90 in November for a large room. It is very nice two star, newly renovated. Rooms on the 4th floor are very large. You can see it at www.france-hotel-guide.com

Did not stay at Regents (watch ut, lots of hotels with similar names) but noted its nice location & charming exteriro when I was in Paris last week. <BR>I also used Best Western w/ success. Check out their easy to use web site. <BR>I stayed yrs ago at Regents Garden & it is a real bargain though location is not perfect but metro is great in Paris. <BR>Make sure you take a paris walking tout (web site by that name)canal ride to villette, dine at Dorsay & Rodin museums!

Hi Christina, <BR> <BR>We stayed at the Caron de Beaumarchais in May. It was very nice and close to everything. I especially enjoyed the fact it had bathrobes and wonderful French soaps. The staff was very helpful and I would recommend it. It costs 810ff and it had air conditioning. We had a room on the second floor with a balconey.

Dear Get [email protected]ike, I think it should be okay for Margo to “publish” part of her book here. I have collected over 60 hotels from her postings. I’ve stayed in 8 of her recommended hotels and know about a dozen others that she mentioned that I would stay in. If she wants to be stupid enough to post them, rather than making money off her book, then let her. I won’t have to buy her book!

I have stayed twice at the Hotel Utrio, which is located in Montmarte. I love it, it is clean, cheap and they have a great breakfast in the morning. Some rooms allow you to see Le Tour Eiffel.

Just got back and stayed at Caron de Beaumarchais. Rooms on street are 810FF, just a shade over the $120 mark. Rooms in back are 730FF, well within the range. It has an elevator, and except for a bit of a water pressure problem at times on the top floor, was great. Christina, make sure you get A/C wherever you stay -- not for the temp control, which you can get with open windows, but to allow you to keep the windows closed and the street noise out. This hotel was great as much for the neighborhood as anything. If you cannot stay in the 4th arr., might consider 5th or 6th. Others are nice, but not as much local color (though it is hard to find a sterile neighborhood anywhere you're likely to stay). <BR>

Hi Christina- <BR>I stayed at Hotel Tourville, near les Invalides, last summer and really liked it. I believe the price was about $120 for a standard room. The location was good and the room was clean and pretty. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. <BR>Have a good trip!
