12 passenger van
Help....leaving for Dublin next week...I need a 12 passenger van.9 people are going and there is a concern with luggage.I've rented the 9 seaters many times in Ire. and I'm hoping it should suffice...but would rather play it safe.Have checked the airport and rental agencies in the city and outskirts.Does any one know of obscure sights or certain phrasing I should be googling??Thanks to all.

Not all 9 passenger people movers are created equal -- look for a Mercedes Vito, Ford Tourneo, or Opel Vivaro.

Just a thought. In Britain, and probably also in Ireland, a van has solid sides, no seats, and is used to carry goods. A vehicle designed to carry 9 or 12 passengers would normally be called a minibus. These are big vehicles for a novice driver on narrow roads.

Your licence may not cover you to drive a 12 seat minibus. In the EU you have to have a special class of licence to drive minibuses with more than 10 seats.
You need to check that with the hire company! |
"<i>Your licence may not cover you to drive a 12 seat minibus.</i>" That -- Plus, do you really want to dive a monster like that in rural Ireland?
If possible, definitely consider renting two cars (or even 3). It will be cheaper. The insurance would be cheaper. They would be easier to drive. And they would give you more flexibility and everyone wouldn't have to be together 24/7. Unless it is a group of 1 adult and 8 kids (or 8 people w/o drivers licenses) you'll likely do better w/ 2 cars. |
