12 nights in Spain

There is so much useful and helpful information on this site. I enjoy reading the different experiences people have. So I'm asking the experienced travelers to give me your latest and greatest ideas for 12 nights in Spain.
We arrive the first day in Barcelona at 2:15pm.
The last 3-4 nights will be in Barcelona. (meeting someone there)
My last trip to Italy was great. We spent time on Lake Como, 3 days. 3 days in a small fishing village, 3 days in a small walled city in Tuscany and the last three in Venice. I enjoyed the time we spent in the small villages the most.
I'm not a big fan of museums.
I'm a big fan of quite! Not much into Disneyland and bunches of people. Love the oceans(water), country side and my wife loves to shop(small shops).I am 43 years old. Will be there first two weeks of June.
Suggestions?

Based on what you've offered up about yourself, my first suggestion to fill the remaining 7 days in Spain would be to head to the Basque Country and stay in Donostia-San Sebastian. It has everything you and your wife are looking for, including shopping. Check out Maribel's Guides for some more information on the city and the area.

This is a last second planned trip. Any idea's where to stay? Most major hotels are full early June, right? Should I consider France?

No. There is availability in the Basque Country in June. Try hotels in Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastian. We've been seeing some great rates.

Not! They would like you to think so but you should have little problem finding accomodations in resort areas in June. For northern Spain (Bilbao, Santander) 'peak' summer season is from 16 Jul (Virgen de Carmen) until mid-Sep. You may find it a bit more crowded along the Costa Brava and the Costa Dorada (Med. beach resorts).

If it were me, I'd take an Hotel Tren or fly to Vigo, a'Corunha or Santiago de Compostela and spend a week working my way back toward Barca, by Bus or driving a rental. I visited Galicia last June: 2-nights at VilaGarcia de Arousa, 2-nights in Santiago de Compostela. If you stop in Santander stay at Playa Sardinero.

Thanks for the tips. Any particular villages we should not miss?
