The weather should be pleasant. Take things you can layer for cooler mornings and evenings and some well-broken-in walking shoes. I've never had a problem with gypsies. Just be aware of your surroundings, use your travel smarts as you would anywhere, and wear a moneybelt under your clothing. Have a great trip!

shall you bring different kind of wear because the weahter it's different city by city... in the south of italy it's not much cold so don't bring wear too pleasant, on the north, for exemple Trentino or Lombardia or others shall you bring pleasant wear in the center the weather it's tempereted so don't bring wear exageratly pleasant...if you want you can visit all the principal town of each region or if you don't wanna visit all the region you can go to visit ROme, Florence,MIlan,Cortina,Venice, in the south PUglia,,Naples i think that those place are very beautiful...you can go by train or plane, but plane is faster than train(but little more expensive)about protect money it's the same things, the money you spend are the same so...there are no difference...if you want save a biggest part of your budget you can stay in B&b it's very useful because are cheap and you have all the time to visit the city, hotel it's not the best because it's a long travel what do you want to do so you can stay in city not much time you can serch your B&b or other place to stay here

Hi N,

>are the gypsies as bad as I have heard? <

No.

This doesn't mean that there aren't pickpockets, hustlers and grifters.

>What is the best method to protect money/credit cards?<

Don't go waving them about.

Keep your purse close to your body at all times.

It is no worse than being a tourist in any large city.

Relax and enjoy your visit.

Nike, you will see gypsies around popular sites like the Vatican. Just look past them and do not accept any token or flowers from them. Soon they will move on to more vulnerable tourists.

As others have said, use a money belt and be aware of your surroundings. In terms of gypsies one thing they like to do is to distract u with small children perhaps or a mother nursing a baby and then will try and pick pocket u.

In 2005, we took a 12 day Globus tour of Italy & absolutely loved it - it was wonderful. If you go to affordabletours.com, there is a talk board for each company & you can talk with others who have & will take your tour.

If your tour offers a dinner at a Tuscan vineyard or olive grove, be sure to take it & take your camera. We had so much fun that nite. Actually we really liked every excursion we took & we didn't think the prices were high. However in Venice, we used the free afternoon & evening rather than an excursion. We wan't to explore on our own.

Everyone on our bus was wonderful. We made friends that we still are in contact with.

http://www.wunderground.com/ Might try this for weather info. We layered our clothes with an unlined waterproof rain coat with attached hood as our top layer, when needed - had great pockets too. We took a sweater for under the raincoat, but we were there in Nov.

We used & still use a waist money belt - can get them from Walmart. Be sure to keep your passports, air tickets, credit cards, extra cash, etc. in your money belt - don't take any chances. Most of the time you can leave your backpack or other day bag on the bus; some places cannot.

It was wonderful having them handle our bags. But the days start early & end late, but we enjoyed even tho we were exhausted! It was great being driven right to the front of each site - how good is that!

Be sure to call your credit card & ATM companies before you go & let them know or they will freeze your cards. After you call (couple of days before going), use your cards at home & make sure they work. One of our companies mistakedly froze our card rather than extending the coverage. If we had tried it before leaving, we would have known.

Have a great time, Julie

Took a 12 day Trafalgar tour this May and it was fabulous! Wear comfortable shoes, be prepared to pay to use restrooms, one euro or less, and I traveled with a purse that had several compartments and fit cross ways in front of me. There have been purse snatchings via scooters from just shoulder bags carried on one shoulder. Have a GREAT time.

My MIL took a Globus tour to Italy. She liked it , but found it very tiring, go to bed early every night you can.
Keep passport and CC in your money belt, and just a days cash in your purse, then you will not be as stressed out about pickpockets. And yes, they are there, but on a tour you will be fine. Just watch out in crowds, that is where they work, don't let anyone with in an arms reach( except your friends of course, LOL ) of you and you will be fine.

Wear comfy shoes no matter what.

nikegirl,
My hubby and I are thinking of taking the same tour in Oct. 09. Did you fly w/ them or solo? did you like the hotels where they placed you? We would love to hear from you all about Globus both good and bad!
thanks so much,
Labot

Wear comfortable clothes, that pack without wrinkling, and make into layered outfits (so you can adjust for the temperatures).

Take at least two pair of very comfortable shoes.

Wear a money belt under your clothing (and DO NOT access it in public!). Keep only 1-days money in your pocket or purse.
