110 Taillevant Paris (Dining Room or with the Sommeliers)
I'm a solo diner at 110 Taillevant on NYE, and I'm being asked by the Maitre 'd whether I would like a table in the dining room or one in another location in the restaurant interacting with the sommeliers. I have no clue which one would be better, more fun. Thoughts?

Do you like interacting with sommeliers? It depends on your idea of fun, I am not interested in that very much (that involves tasting a bunch of different wines, about 4 for each dish, but it isn't a full glass of wine, and then they tell you about the wine some, I imagine, or you can ask them questions). I just want to eat dinner and have a nice, regular size glass of wine that I choose, I'm not into that wine tasting stuff or wanting to talk about it. I don't actually like having a bunch of different wines at the same meal, I like having only one kind. And I really don't like mixing reds and whites and regular wine with bubbly stuff all during the same meal, which is what I think you are in for.
However, some people obviously like that idea of wine flights or whatever they call it. However, I thought you had to have that if you were at 110 Taillevent, I thought that was their whole schtick. Maybe there is one area closer to the sommeliers for people who like talking about the wine a lot more. |
I know the place quite well. I think if you are alone on NYE that you might ask to sit at the bar. The staff behind the bar are friendly and interesting....

I would not even have to think twice about this decision, but I love wine - tasting different types, pairing with food AND talking about all of that. I'd definitely choose interacting with sommeliers. Plus, I'm assuming that since you've been communicating with the Maitre d' that there are no language barriers.

We recently had lunch Les 110 Taillevent and sat in the dining room. Everything about our 3 hours of dining and wine tasting was perfect. All of the staff is quite knowledgeable and able to talk to you about the wines, although perhaps not to the extent of the sommelier. Personally I would do plan on doing both! I wish we had had time to go back for dinner during our week in Paris. It will be the first thing we do next time we are there! Enjoy.

Okay...so the sommelier, it is. I think, "normally," I'd pick the dining room, but new year, so something new. Thanks, guys! I willl report back. Promise. :)

Ate their last night...the bar might be more fun, but the staff is great and all the food and wine are outnof this world. You will enjoy no matter where you sit..
