10th District
I have rented an apartment for a week at 29 Boulevard de Magenta in October. Am wondering if anyone on this board has any info on grocery stores, restaurants, delis, etc. in this area? Also wondering about bus transfering at Nord and Est. Is it fairly easy or a lot of walking involved? Any info would be appreciated.

You'll be a few blocks from the Canal St-Martin where you will find any number of cafés and restaurants along the quais. Sorry I can't help with groceries, etc.
Here are a few places in the area:
Hotel du Nord , 102, quai de Jemmapes in the 10th, 01.40.40.78.78, open everyday from 11 AM til 2 AM.
Le Verre Volé , 67 rue de Lancry --01 48 03 17 34 , M: Jacques-Bonsergent. Open, 10h30-Midnight. Closed Monday. Reservations recommended. Wine bar, good food.
La Cantine de Quentin, 52 rue Bichat, 10th. M°Jacques Bonsergent. 01.42.02.40.32. Open Tue-Sun, 9am-8pm, and lunch from noon-4pm. Sort of an upscale deli.
Urbane, 12 rue Arthur Groussier in the 10th M: Goncourt. 01 42 40 74 75. Closed Sunday and Monday. Menus less than 30 Euros.
Buses 56 and 65 should take you from your address to both the gares pretty easily. The distances you need to walk to transfer buses will vary, depending on the bus you want.

We rented a great apt on 69 Blvd magenta, and loved the neighborhood.

as to restaurants - Aux Zingots was wonderful, good food, very nice people. In the next block. Chez Casimir was great, a couple of blocks away. We wanted to go to Chez Michel, next door but couldn't get in. Schmid traiteur for awesome Alsatian takeout. The neighborhood was ethnic, also, lots of Africans, very interesting, with many hair salons catering to them, where apparently the whole family went to hang out. There's always the Terminus Nord, of the Flo Brasseries family.
The Franprix is a good supermarket, and the marche St Quentin is in the next block, and it was fabulous.
Have a great time, you have picked a wonderful neighborhood. Stroll along the Canal St Martin, it's really neat. The 10th is an absolutely wonderful area for food shopping. The Faubourg Saint Denis is a great market street from the Porte Saint Denis to Gare de l'Est, and also home to Flo, Julien and a number of other excellent restaurants. My personal favorite in the area is Derya at #16, an elegant but extremely reasonable Turkish restaurant. And of course there is the Passage Brady, where you can spend a night in India (my favorite place there is Shalimar).
