10 UK Trips by Public Transport

I blame growing up in California for my love of public transport when I travel. I'd never ridden on a train or bus, other than a school bus, except once with my daring friend, Ginny Minster, from the hills where we lived in Berkeley to the flats to see a movie when we were 11. I moved to San Francisco for college, had a car but left it in the garage & began my love for letting someone else do the driving.

I ran across this article this morning and thought I ought to share:

Southern Rail between Portsmouth and London Victoria is very pretty running through West Sussex.

The North West, between Lancaster and Carlisle.

Much of the rail network is being ruined by over development.

much of the rail network is being ruined by under investment, over charging, poor rolling stock, incompetent management, inept change management, is there anything I missed?

Its usually cheaper to hire a Bentley with a chauffeur in the U.K. than buy a second class ticket.

I feely dirty every time, the once or twice a year I make the enormous mistake of using our train system.

British trains have lagged behind Continental trains for eons - why can't a dense country like Britain not have a true high-speed national rail system like several European countries? Abandoning the BritRail system is part of the cause IMO.

I won't argue.....it just pays to be selective.

There are those of us who still enjoy your trains, having none of our own to complain about. I imagine the less you use them, the fewer & dirtier they will be. I do love the "feely dirty" bit especially. Carry on.
