10 overlooked UK attractions

Ugh. I'm not too crazy about this new format. Anyways, on the Guardian website they had an article about the 10 overlooked UK attractions and I thought it would be of interest to some here. Go here to read the article:

Out of that list, I've only been to Kenwood House in Hampstead Heath. I'm surprised it made the list. The one time I visited it, while there weren't too many visitors inside the house, there were certainly plenty of people in the grounds and open fields surrounding the house. Many families were having picnics in the fields and kids were playing. The cafe at Kenwood House was also very popular as I recall having a hard time finding an empty table for my lunch. And this was a weekday in May (not a holiday).

Nice list.

Don't know about some of these being "overlooked" -- I've been to 6 of the 10. Had not heard of 2 -- the museum in Tring and the station in Sunderland.

I agree w/ yk -- hard to think of Kenwood (or Woburn) being unknow/overlooked.

traf... thanks for posting this

i note that Blackpool Pleasure Beach is still the number one overall tourist attraction. Janis - have you been there? Just curious - i have a few times and in the U.S. this would be a tacky amusement park that would now be out of business.

And i note on the most popular list there is missing the London Eye Ferris Wheel, Madame Tussauds and the London Dungeon, all of which certainly have more visitors than some sights on the list - so don't know what the criteria is.

Thanks for the link and list. Although I've been to UK several times, now I have more "new" things to see.

PalQ- given that the places you mentioned, London eye, Madame Tussauds, and London Dungeon, all charge admission to enter, I'm not surprised none of them make the list. Out of the top 10, only 2 charge admission: St Paul's & Tower of London.

I would expect Westminster Abbey to be more popular than St Paul's, but heck, what do I know?

"so don't know what the criteria is."

There's just the one criterion. Being overlooked.

For which being visited by millions every year disqualifies.
