10 nights in Provence in May

Jump to last reply

DH and I just purchased tix to Paris in May. We arrive at CDG in the AM and have 10 nights to spend before flying out of CDG in the PM. After many previous trips to Europe our intention this time is to explore Provence. We will have a rental car. We would welcome suggestions about central locations for exploring the region. (Yes I just emailed for Stu Dudley's itinerary.) We are hoping to stay on a budget for under 100 Euros per night for our accommodations if possible. Our interests are good food (nothing too fancy), lovely scenery, photography, hiking. We like being outdoors in nature. Suggestions welcome. We like wine too.

I don't understand why you are flying in and out of Paris if the trip is supposed to be to Provence? I just wonder what that means for your schedule. Does that mean you want to spend part of those 10 nights in Paris? If so, how many. If not, you are going to waste a day at the end getting back to Paris, I presume.

Anyway, I guess you bought those tickets already, so without knowing how much time you plan to spend in Paris, I'd suggest taking the TGV train down south before getting your rental car. YOu can go to Avignon to start, or Marseille or even farther east towards Nice. If you started in Nice, you could work your way back west. If you just want to do Provence, you could go to Marseille, get your car, and then drive to a place to stay which isn't that far (although not sure you should do all that the day you land after a long flight, I presume). Aix isn't too far from Marseille airport, I did that once (drove to Aix from MRS airport upon landing, as it was only a couple hours). Then I stayed around there a couple days and then moved to another part of Provence for the end of the trip, took my car back to Avignon TGV station and took the train to Paris. YOu could do something like that.
