10 nights in Positano-too many?

Hi, all,
My husband & I want to celebrate our 30th anniversary in Italy. We went to Rome, Florence & Venice for our 25th, and I went back with my sister 2 years later, as I really loved those cities.

My question: is there enough to do in Positano, or should we try to add a couple of other places? I plan to visit the surrounding towns and Pompeii, but what else do you do?

Also: what room to ask for in Hotel Poseidon?

And, one more thing: how's the shopping? Thanks in advance.

One more thing...I have rooms on hold rm 210 at Miramare or a Standard Double at Poseidon...which do you recommend?

Thanks!

10 nights on the Amalfi Coast is nice .... see everything within reach at your own pace. I would enjoy that.

10 nights in Positano might be overkill.

The difference is being in places like Capri, Sorrento or Ravello overnight can be very special.

I agree. Five days is probably more than enough in such a small town. A few days on Capri might be nice. I'd skip Sorrento. Maybe head farther afield for a few days in Taormina . . . lots of possibilities.

You'll see all there is to see in Positano in a day. After that, it's just settling into the local lifestyle. That can be very enjoyable. You can vary it with a few day trips, true. But I'd get restless after a week.

Hi,
Thanks! I was thinking it was too long! Now, I'm wondering about returning to Venice, with a few days in the Lake country...

I second the vote on skipping Sorrento. We stayed 5 nights in Capri and found plenty to do. If you do a few in Positano you could do Pompeii and Herculaneum. You could also do the Archeological Museum in Naples. There is plenty to do in that region. We did alot of sightseeing and hiking but we also took time in Capri to swim, relax and just enjoy the ambience.

Thanks-I do love to visit ruins, and would love to see Pompeii.

So many choices and not enough time!

We had a standard double at the Poseidon last September and it was really lovely. Plenty of room... oh, we did have a balcony room; I loved it. I liked everything about the hotel, especially the restaurant.

But 10 days in Positano would be too many for me. We spent 3 days and nights in Bellagio, then flew to Naples and spent 5 nights in Positano. I could have spent more time in Bellagio, but it was a wonderful trip: romantic, beautiful and relaxing.

Hi ct,

May I suggest 3 days in Naples, 5 in Positan and 2 in Capri?

We're going to be spending a full week in Positano, which is probably longer than ideal, all things considered. But it does allow us to rent a two-bedroom apartment with kitchen instead of staying at a hotel. That, in our view, provides better accomodation bang for the buck.

Lots of nice places to rent there and elsewhere on the AC. Just a thought.

Thanks to everyone for your advice. tuscanlifeedit, I was just reading about Bellagio. How did you get there? It looks like it takes a long time from Milan?
