10 hour layover at Fiumicino
I have about a ten hour wait between flights at FCO. Any suggestions on shopping or anything close to the airport of interest. How's the duty free food shopping at FCO? Any thoughts on quick and cheap ways in and out of Rome?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I agree, I would take the Leonardo Express which will take you to Termini Station (Rome's central rail station). Note: this train stops at platform 24 so you will need to walk 10 minutes (just follow the flow of people) in order to get to the staion's main building. Just take bus 64 from Piazza dei Cinquecento which is outside the Station (buy a ticket from a newsagent and punch it in the yellow machine as soon as you get on the bus to avoid a fee). This bus will take you to Piazza Venezia. You can get off there and visit the Vittoriano and then walk to Piazza Navona, one of the most beautiful and characteristic roman squares. Enjoy a cappuccino in one of the bars facing the Piazza, maybe walk till the Pantheon and Trevi fountain which are within walking distance from there and then take a bus from Via del Tritone to go back to Termini from where you'll take the airport train shuttle.

Thank you all very much. Battuffolina - you seem to know Rome pretty well. I've been to Piazza Navona in the past. I'm on my way to Croatia going sailing and would love to go to a really good market to buy some provisions - olive oil, salami, ham, bread, wine. Any suggestions?

The most central shop where you can find italian products is SCIARRA, which is in VIA CELIMONTANA 21/C.
Take bus number 75 from Piazza dei Cinquecento (in front of Termini railway station), get off at the bus stop called CELIO VIBENNA (ask the conductor where it is, but it is near the Colusseum. Stay near the conductor during the ride, so when it is time for you to get off he will tell you). From that stop you must walk for 350 metres to get there. They sell all sorts of products, from cheese to salami, oil and wine
