Does half-fare card give half off at museums the Swiss Pass covers in full? Or, nada?

Melnq8 Apr 14th, 2019 10:48 AM

Nope.

well just to nit pick - if you get the flex pass which does include many museum fees, can you visit those museums on days you are NOT traveling on the flex pass?

All fares for Gotthard Panorama Express:

Evidently not. From the MySwissAlps.com site:

On free travel days, your Swiss Travel Pass Flex works as a Swiss Museum Pass too.

I'd try to use the pass for discounts and claim ignorance if they say no.

Melnq8 Apr 14th, 2019 01:10 PM

Oh brother. That certainly wouldn't be my strategy.

Chances are transport is going to cost you a whole lot more than museum entrance fees. How many museums do you plan to visit? I've been to a whopping two in over a dozen visits to Switzerland. You can check museum fees online and plan accordingly.

Yes, not many museums of interest in places tourists actually go - but a couple in Lucerne and the Swiss Transport Museum a few kms out of town (50% off only there with pass however) but otherwise unless going to Ballenberg Open-Air museum not much - Ballenberg costs a lot however.

Ditto, and I visited quite a few wonderful museums in Switzerland.

How do you find this information, Nelson?

kja, when you are in the "Europe" forum page then the column headings for the threads are “Thread / Original Poster”, “Last Post”, “Replies” and “Views”. If you click on "Views" then it sorts all the threads with the highest number of views at the top. There's Jane's thread having just blasted past a maitaitom trip report! You can see the number of threads on the main forums page, Europe currently has 257.2k.

I keep an eye on the Switzerland branch because I have a trip planned there this year. Fortunately, it seems, I don't have to make any decisions for this trip!

@ Nelson: Ah, that's it -- thanks!
