10 Days Itinerary Help! - Croatia
Hello,
I would like to start by admitting that i've never posted anything on here (I actually just made this account!) but i've been using this website for a while and it is AMAZING!
So I will be traveling to Croatia from the 30th of Aug to the 9th of Sept. I'm currently based in Dusseldorf, Germany. Croatia is completely foreign to me so the information out there is overwhelming.
I would like some help making a 10 days itinerary. I will fly to Rijeka on the 30th but I don't have a return flight yet (aka in theory I can fly black from any city)
I will be using public transportation (renting a car is not an option for me :/) and I def want to visit Plitvice Lakes National. A lot of the itineraries on this website and others seem to suggest A LOT of cities/towns/places for such a short period of time. Is this the normal thing to do in Croatia?
I don't like to rush when I travel (My last 10 days vacation was spent 4 days in Vienna, 2 in Salzburg, and 4 in Munich)
I like the beach, picturesque cities, nature, and love lakes. Where do you think I should visit in 10 days?
Thanks in advance!

I've been doing a lot of flight research and know that my return flight has to be from Zadar, or very unlikely Rijeka. My flight into Croatia, 30/8/2013 could be to Rijeka or Split. What would make for a better 10 days Itinerary.
Thanks in Advance!

I love Hvar! You can get an overnight ferry from Rijeka to Hvar, stay in Hvar for a few days, (including daytrips to Brac and/or Vis), and then ferry back to Split for your flight home. Around Split area, you can visit Trogir, Sibenik etc.
However, with this itinerary, I don't know how you can get to Plitvica Jezero.

What do you guys think of this plan:
Land on Split on 30/8
Stay there on the 31/8 (Does Split itself need more than a day and a half?)
Visit Solta on 1/9 (Or stay in Split if it needs more than a day and half) and spend the night in Hvar
Stay in Hvar on 2/9
Daytrip to Brac on 3/9
Daytrip to Vis on 4/9
Stay in Hvar on 5/9 (Or should I go to Biševo and see the blue cave?)
Go to Zadar on 6/9
Stay in Zadar 7/9
Go to Plitvice for a day drip on 8/9
Take the plane back to Germany on 9/9
How does the plan sound? Are there any suggestions?

Sounds ok on paper, and I assume you looked at transportation options and schedules for the days you are interested in between the locations you listed.

We did not visit Split, but my understanding is that Diocletian’s Palace is well worth a visit. 1 ½ days or 2 ½…I can’t say.
Daytrip to Brac on 3/9 – have you checked ferries from Hvar to Brac, both ways for that date?
Daytrip to Vis on 4/9 – similar question as above
Stay in Hvar on 5/9 (Or should I go to Biševo and see the blue cave?) – Hvar is your base, but you don’t seem to spend much time there. Do so, and visit the fortress.
Go to Zadar on 6/9
Stay in Zadar 7/9
Go to Plitvice for a day drip on 8/9 – how are you getting back and forth? Bus? Check their schedules.
Take the plane back to Germany on 9/9
Croatia is a beautiful country and you will love it, but we drove around, so I can’t help much with public transportation. The islands are amazing, and if one of your choices does not work out, consider Korkula, I think ferries between Hvar and Korkula run more frequently.
Plitvice Lakes are gorgeous, but as a day trip you will have to share them with lots of other tourists. Oh well, there are worse things in life, it’s an amazing place so try to get there.
Have a great trip!

As xyz99 says, you need to check the ferry schedules very carefully if you want to plan on island hopping. (And be sure to check the correct day and month!) And you'll need to check the bus schedules for Plitvice Lakes.
I thought Split well worth 1.5 days, but then I enjoy museums and roaming around interesting city neighborhoods. Those aren't among the things you list as interests, so if you are just aiming to see the highlights, a half day might work for you.
Enjoy!

Hi Hashi,
Plans are always great on piece of paper .
But I think that its too much for 9 days, you'll spend all of your time on the road.
My sugesstion is to take 2 base towns and then from then you can explore the beauties of Croatia.
4-5 days in Split from where you can go to(Krka National park,Island Brac-Hvar-Vis-Solta,Trogir,Sibenik,Kornati National Park)
and offcourse 4-5 days in Dubrovnik.
