Hi, Betty, great report. In several trips to France somehow Lyon managed to elude me. I'll make sure to visit next time we're in France. Happy New Year to you.

Hi Betty. Really enjoyed your report and pictures. DH and I also loved JA museum in Paris. The travelling the owners did was certainly more complicated than it is today.

The holiday shots in Galerie Lafayette were especially inviting.

We are planning 5 nights in Lyon in March. It was great seeing shots of your studio. Lyon looks beautiful.

What's next for you?

Thanks for the last comments, all. It's always nice to know that someone actually reads what you've taken the time to post!

Sue4, I actually passed by the Hotel des Artistes (on Place des Celestins, right?) but didn't go inside. Part of my reason for going to Lyon was to check it out for any future group trips, so I took a look at a few hotels. La Residence was the ony one I photographed and entered, however.

TDudette, what's next for me? A group trip next May to Paris, staying in the apartment I mentioned above, followed by a week in Languedoc. I am now scouring the internet for a house we can rent somewhere near Narbonne. (If anyone knows of one that would comfortably accommodate 6 people - 1 couple + 4 singles - I'd love to hear about it.) I'm hoping that by basing there, we can visit sites in both lower and upper Languedoc.

Happy New Year to all of you!

Hmm, I'm now looking forward to the crazy-dazey report I expect from a group trip to Paris and Narbonne. Thank you.

For some reason when I was in Paris last spring the special exhibit at JA had a very, very short line the afternoon I was there. I really wanted to see it but was on a tight schedule and wearing high heels. Good luck bad luck, I suppose.

It's nice to read about something other than Paris or the Côte d'Azur, Betty!

Betty,

In July of 2007 I had the opportunity to tour the Resistance Museum and heartily agree with your sentiments. The starkness of the museum resonates the fear and danger of the era.

For future travels I recommend the Tissue Museum in Lyon. The exhibit focuses on the silk trade that was based in Lyon. If I remember correctly it has a working jacquard loom. I also think the Biltmore Estate, Asheville NC worked with the museum to locate the pattern for refurbishing some of the silk wall coverings.

After leaving the silk exhibit I walked to vieux Lyon and found a traboule (sp?) the connecting walkways the merchants used to protect their fabric from the weather. A local walked me through and gave me a bit of history. Again, both the museum and traboule may be interest to a group touring Lyon.

Thanks for posting about Lyon, your report brought good memories back to me.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.. I really enjoyed your TR,and really enjoyed your pictures. Oh that one picture of the salad at L'Obe looked so delish. And was that a soup of some kind at L'Obe? That looked really good too.

Lyon looked dreamy, another place in France that I'd love to go to. It just could happen very soon.

Thanks again, Mamaw

I lived in Lyon for almost 3 years and reading trip reports about the city always makes me nostalgic!

Betty1, Thank you so much for your report on Lyon. I've been trying to pick out a few places outside Paris to visit on our next trip, and you really made Lyon come alive. Thanks to Julie49 as well for that excellent tip. So nice to read wonderful details for somewhere other than Paris, though I do love it. Bookmarking for the future.
Good luck for your trip in May, Betty1, I'll look forward to hearing about it.
