10 days in Italy in May/June 2010

We are planning to spend 10 days in Italy and visit Rome, Positano, Sienna, and Florence . We plan to fly into Rome, stay there for 2 days, take an overnight trip to Positano and then travel to Tuscany and Florence by car. Is this itinerary reasonable logistically and considering our timeframe? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

This is just my opinion but with 10 days you should only do 2 places, 3 places is really packing it tight. Relocating each time eats up a lot of hours of your valuable time. Also, 2 days in Rome is NOT enough. There's so much to see. I was just there for 5 nights and only scratched the surface. Whatever you decide to do, have a wonderful time! Where are you flying home from?

You have only 10 days, but you've listed 5 destinations. That's 2-3 destinations too many, IMO. I would choose Positano or Siena but not both.

If Positano wins, then fly into Naples not Rome and go immediately to Positano. Train to Rome for a few days, then Florence for a few days and fly out of Pisa if possible. If Pisa isn't possible, then I would train from Salerno or Naples to Florence and leave Rome for last.

I meant to add that you can easily visit Siena as a day trip without a car from Florence. If you drop Positano, then definitely rent a car for at least a day of your time in Tuscany.

I agree, with 10 days (does this include travel days...if it does you only really have 8 days) pick 2 spots, 3 max. Positano is a bit of a trek to get to, so 1 night would not be worth it to me.

I would pick Rome and Positano, or Rome and Florence with a day trip to Siena or similar, or Rome overnight in Orvieto and Florence.

Factor in losing at least 1/2 a day each time you move, so with your 5 desintations you will lose about 2.5 - 3 days of your 10 (or 8) vacation days just in transit.

Hope this helps!

I agree fully. We just want to see Italy so much that we got a bit greedy. Sienna is beautiful but so is Positano so it is an uneasy choice to make...Thank you all for your feedback! It is well taken
