10 days in Clare, Galway and Mayo
We are leaving tonight! I have been reading a lot of the posts on this site and have collected some good information, but I also thought I'd ask for any final words of advice. We fly into Shannon, spend three days in the Burren area, then travel up the coast to Connemara for three days, then another two near Ballina before returning to Galway for a couple of nights before leaving. We have accomodations but would love any tips on great food, pubs, sites. Thanks.

We just recently spent two nights in Galway and there was a pub we enjoyed very much.
We asked a local where we could hear some good music. She told us about Monroe's pub. The music did not start until around 10:30 or so. I think they have different musicians every night that make the rounds in Galway. Anyway, this pub is fairly open and we were able to enjoy the music. Some of the pubs are very small and like tunnels and if you are not right on top of the musicians, it is difficult to hear. They do serve food until about 9:30, but we did not eat there. We ate at the River God on High Street (fixed price menu) and enjoyed it very much. We only drove through the Burren and did not make it to Connemara on this trip, so I am no help there. I think you will like this city. |
In Connemara, Roundstone is a great little town to visit. Also, Leenane and Killary Harbor are favorites of mine. The drive from Leenane to Louisburgh through the Doo Lough valley is spectacular...one of my favorites in Ireland.
Hope you have a wonderful trip. Safe travels! |
Be adventuresome! Just stop at places that look interesting to you- try a small village pub for good info. Rely on the BB owner to steer you to your next stop! Enjoy a wonderful country.
