10 day trip through italy and switzerland
 

hii everyone,
i am planning to go on a trip through italy and switzerland sometime in mid july to mid august.I was wondering how the weather is out there at this tym as iv been told its quite hot in italy.I was also wondering as to what places i shd visit in italy.Iv been told the rome-naples-florence-venice circuit is a beautiful trip??Also i am clueless as to where to go in switzerland?What are the best modes of transportation in and arnd these places.I am planing a trip wid my parents for about 10 days and v are on a moderate budget.Please help me plan out the trip...all inputs are welcome.Hotels,Geusthouses,train information...anything....

With only 10 days on a moderate budget, my suggestion might be to skip Switzerland, and stick with the places you mention in Italy. To me Rome, Venice, Florence would be idea. You can do that all on the train. Fly into Venice and out of Rome to avoid backtracking.

If you really want Switzerland I have done a nice 2 week trip that included the Lac Leman area outside Geneva (Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux) and trained to Venice for a few days and back, using Geneva as my airport.

This is pretty vague information. Yes, Rome, Naples, Florence and Venice are beautiful - well, maybe not Naples - and they are worth visiting, but so are hundreds of other places.

The farther south you go in Italy, the hotter it gets. Rome, Naples, and Florence can get nasty in mid-summer. Venice can be extremely humid. Once you get nearer the Alps, in northern Italy and, of course, Switzerland, elevation is your friend as far as temperature goes.

"Where should I go?" questions are going to solicit dozens of answers. You are essentially asking people to tell you what their favourite places are in Italy and Switzerland. You have already named some of the biggies in Italy, and you can probably get the rest from a Google search. Unless you know why people like a place and those reasons are important to you, it is a strange exercise, in my opinion.

You need to decide on what is important to you and what kind of vacation you want; big cities, art galleries, museums, or smaller towns and a more casual approach (or a combination of both) and ask some more pointed questions.

Where have you or your parents always wanted to go? What interests you? Tell us those things and you will get some great advice in here.

With 10 days pick 3 destinations and have fun.

Without knowing you and your interests it's practically impossible to make specific recos (churches? museums? architecture? historic sights? cafe sitting and people watching? hiking? clog dancing?).

I will say that 10 days should be no more than 3 destinations (and that's pushing it). You might do 2 cities in Italy (it will be hot as hell that time of year - expect temps well up in the 90s and budget hotels may not have AC) and one place in Switzerland. But the more you move around the more expensive the trips will be.
