10 day travel in UK, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy with my mama!

I want to travel in Europe with my mom for 10 days in Europe (in those countries listed), but I have no clue where to start!

I will land in the UK and want to focus more on traveling countries outside of the UK, because I'll be studying there fore two months this summer.

Should we fly over to Italy first and work our way up?
Also, do you recommend flying or using the Eurail pass?

Thanks so much in advance! Thank goodness I found this forum!

Welcome!

With 10 days (does that include travel days?). You won't be able to get to all the places on your list - you have listed countries that take weeks or months in themselves to see! Realistically you can see 3 tops. Keep in mind every time you change locations you lost about half a day checking out, getting to the train station or airport, waiting, mtravelling, getting from the airport etc to your hotel, checking in...you get the picture.

I would sit down with your mom and pick 2-3 locations (towns/cities...not countries) and then come back and we can help you with the best way to get in between.

If you haven't booked flights yet consider flying into one place and out of another to save backtracking...it's called open jaw.

Hope this helps!

How old is mom and how spry? If you try to make her bop around with the energy of a teenager or 20something, she'll be miserable and you will too.

Consider picking an area the old lady wants to see and concentrating on one or two main cities with side trips.

Ten days is barely enough to see one country, never mind four. And why land in the UK if your intention is to leave it for somewhere else?

Pick one country, and two, or at most three, cities or areas in that country, and do them some justice. Otherwise, your trip is going to be a thesis on European transport systems.

Wow that is very ambitious. I would suggest France and Belgium as that will be easy train travel and you will get to see lots considering it is just 10 days.

I suggest you fly to Rome, spend four nights (which means three days), then fly to Paris for four nights, then train to London. That's all you can manage in ten days if you are going to see anything at all. Europe is a big place, and you are not accounting for how long it takes to see things and travel from place to place.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I was thinking 4 countries were too ambitious..
I'm flying into London, because I'll be studying there so I thought it'd be easiest to book flights that come and go from the same place.

I'll definitely narrow down the countries and ask more questions! Thanks so much!
