Whereas we spent two days on Skye and wished it was one. I did a complete trip report of our Scottish honeymoon -- it's not hard to find if you search my username.

We ate at the Pub Sheila mentioned in Dunkeld -- very friendly, limited but good menu (stovies -- a traditional Scottish potato dish). We stayed at the Birnam Wood House just across the river which was a lovely B&B.

Other B&B's we liked -- Braelangwell House on the Black Isle, just north of Inverness. My favorite B&B of the trip. The Viewfield House on Skye was more of a hotel, but a total kick.

"Oh Sheila"....( I hum in my head)... "She's a rock star" (hence my mumblings as I never can remember a verse)... When visiting Scotland always trust her advice. Except that I would encourage you to check out the SW of Scotland. Tis Grand, but then again all of Scotland is grand. Ta!

What are you looking for, Sammyk?

I'd like to switch the assumptions a little. I am the planner for a trip arriving in Scotland (via train f/London)on May 29 and departing from London on June 5. We will have a larger group consisting of about 10 people. Ages - kids from 15-25/ adults mid-40's to early 50's. Because of the size of the group, we would prefer not to have a car(s)unless truly needed.

* Mandatory stops - one day at St.Andrews to see my daughters uni.

*Interests - guys want to have a one-day fishing w/gilly, one golf day, and wouldn't mind a stop or two on the whisky tour.

Ladies - Edinburgh of course, and scenery in the Highlands. They would also like to stay in a 'castle' one night. If we ran into any Highland Games events tha would be fun also.

Original thoughts were to fly to from London to EDI and train up to Ft. William area (Spean Bridge - fishing? Glencoe)on May 29, use that area as a base. Travel to St. Andrews on Tuesday June 1 for a night/following day. Train to Edinburgh on June 3. Fly out through London on June 5.

I think you have to be inside my befuddled head before you (mis) use words like "amazing"

First, when are your departure/arrival times? Is that a full week, or just 5 dyas, in other words.

I understand you not wanting a car and I reckon we can do something here, but you will have to recognise that it will restrict your options.

You are very early on the games circuit and your arrival/ departure times are very important here. The only options are:-

MAY 29 - BLACKFORD
June 5 - STRATHMIGLO HIGHLAND GAMES or
CORNHILL HIGHLAND GAMES

Realistically, Cornhill's out, BUT depending on times you could do either of the others.

What sort of place do you want to stay in? Hotels? Self catering? B&Bs?

I'll stand by the 'amazing' comment. You have shared your knowledge to many posts and we value your opinions. So amazing it is.

Our current plans are to fly into London from the US- arriving morning May 26. We had then planned on using Saturday May 29 as a travel day to travel to Scotland. Some of us have taken the GNER from London and enjoyed it, but could just as easily be happy with a cheap flight from London to EDI. We would like to take the train up into the highlands.

At present, we had planned on leaving from London on Saturday June 5, but we probably could change that to leaving Sunday June 6th if it helped improve the trip.

I do realize that there are not many games going on during the time we are there and even then we may not be in the right part of the country.

I think that B&B's would be our choice. We will have used all of our Hilton Honors points staying in London and probably would prefer the B&B or small guest house or hotels anyway. We have stayed in a B&B in Edinburgh before and although I wouldn't return to that one, we do like the hospitality of the b&b arrangement.

I live in Dalgety Bay near Dunfermline and Dunfermline Abbey is an amazing site.

I would also recommend going along the coast of Fife as the fishing villages are lovely.

We are heading to Scotland in mid-June and are debating train and bus travel to see as much of Scotland as possible after four nights in Edinburgh. Have read of tours such as Prestige for 3 or 4 days and debating this over traveling on our own as we have done in Czech Republic and Austria. Will have one week after our time in Edinburg is through. Interested in B and B's. Interested in Isle of Skye where McLeod tradition still holds forth. Any suggestions?

Generally, you will see more of what you want in Scotland if you drive yourself. Prestige are probably the best tour company on the market.

Don't know if you remember or not...but you responded to some questions that I had about Edinburgh. My sister and I had planned to go to Edinburgh and London in November of this year. We have changed our minds and want to make Scotland our only destination.

So here goes:
We did change our plans from November to June as everyone suggested. Actually, it works out better in more ways than one. Also, I started a new job and have more vacation time so I am able to do a 10-12 day itinerary.

I reviewed the itinerary you suggested to mr go and looked at several maps. It looks like a lot of places to go in that period of time. Could you help me out with suggested overnight stops?

We would also like to go to St Andrews...friends there. Where should we add that in? A day trip from Edinburgh?

How would we edit the list so that we can have one or two days in Glasgow? Would we have to eliminate Skye?
