1 Week in Slovenia

Hey all!

Planning a trip to slovenia in september 2017. aiming for 1 week and I am hoping to hit maribor, ljubljana, lake bled, and piran...maybe even the skocjan caves. Hoe long do you recommend I spend in each city?

I am hoping to fly into a major city and then train into one of those cities. Is there a city you recommend I fly into and then train to one of the cities I listed?

I don't plan on renting a car, doing the eurorail pass.

So if anyone has a plan of attack they recommend, as well as some must-sees in those cities or nearby, I greatly appreciate it!

I spent a week there five years ago and loved here. Here is my trip report and link to photos

How long to spend in each place really depends on what you want to see and do. For example, I was glad to have nearly 2 days in Ljubljana; others are satisfied with part of a day. As another example, I wanted a bit more than a day for Lake Bled; others find a day trip sufficient. I recommend getting a really good guidebook -- I thought the Rough Guide particularly helpful -- and plan a route based on your interests.

As for flying, I'm a fan of routing all the way through to where I want to go, even if that means a stop somewhere en route. That way, if the timing of one flight or the other is off, the airline is still responsible for getting me to my destination (as opposed to the problems that can arise if the final leg is on a separate ticket). So I would fly into Ljubljana, but that's just my preference....

I could easily be mistaken, but I think you are more likely to use buses than trains, taking buses into and out of Slovenia for each place you want to see. You might check rome2rio.com to get a sense of your options -- but confirm anything you find there, as it isn't fully accurate or up-to-date.

Slovenia is delightful -- enjoy!
