1 week in Corsica

I'm trying to come up with a 1 week trip to Corsica next summer that combines day hiking and lying on the beach and does not involve a lot of driving time each day. What would be the 2 best places to use as bases? Any suggestions please?

Hey there, My husband and I are going to be in Corsica in mid October. We are primarily going to be in Ajaccio. If I don't forget, I'll let you know what "cooking" over there.

For hiking, the Hotel Dominique Colonna is an excellent base, and only a short walk into Corte. This is a modern hotel, but the family also owns the more traditional Restaurant Auberge de la Restonica, across the car park from the hotel. I spent a delightful week at the hotel last May and ate at the excellent restaurant in the Auberge every night.

Several years ago I stayed near Bonifacio, in the south, and there were some beautiful beaches in the area. Bonifacio was also very interesting.

We just got back from Corsica. WOW! It is fantastic! We were only on the west coast so I can not advise on any thing else. The small two villages that I wold highly recommend are Porto and Piana. There are wonderful hiking areas, mountains, beaches, gorges, and beautiful forests. Need I say more! We stayed in Ajaccio, which is the hub and loved it, but if I were to go back I would probably go for the smaller towns as just a matter of preference. The drive from Ajaccio to these villages isn't really far so there wouldn't be long travel time involved.Any other questions? I could go on and on.

Libby_Nash--Could you tell me some more about your trip ie. hiking, beaches, hotels restaurants. Corsica sounds really nice and I'm trying to fill in the details of a trip. Thanks for your help.

Does anyone have any advice about Corsica? My husband has a business trip near Bastia for a few days in April and we are trying to decide how much time we should stay there. We are also considering using some of the time on the front end to go to the Florence area. Do you know anything about ferry's flights from that area to Bastia? Thanks!

I confess that I have only spent one weekend in Corsica. But I don't know anybody who has spent a week or two there who doesn't wish they had been able to spend at least a month.
