It's been a while, but... Travel from Budapest to Prague can be done by train, but takes more time than I'd yield in a week's vacation, so fly instead. Adding a day in Vienna is not worth it simply because there is so much to see and do there that a day can't even scratch the surface. (It took us 3 days just to scratch, and there is much more on offer there!)

In Budapest, there are three principal options to/from airport and city. Bus/metro combination is probably not worth the hassel with luggage, but is cheapest. Airport minibus - desk in airport to book - should get you direct to hotel. Or taxi or car service. With adequately large car, car service may be the best deal for four with luggage. 2 - 3 people can make it in a taxi. You can look and decide when you arrive.

I vote for the flying too. We had a late afternoon flight from Budapest so we still had that day to spend in Budapest (which we used to go to Great Market Hall, see the Gellert Baths, the Cave Church, etc.) then went to the airport, flew to Prague and arrived in time for dinner.
