1-month stay in Frankfurt
 

Will be staying in Frankfurt for about a month or so. Any suggestions of places worth visiting, exploring...etc? Where is the best shopping district with cheap and hip stuff? Places for sight-seeing? Thanks for any comments.

Hi Li, <BR>for shopping try the "Zeil", it´s between "Hauptwache" and "Konstablerwache". The last two are underground stations, you will easily reach them. There are the main big stores. All around that street, which is a pedestrian zone you`ll find little shops. For "hip" shopping you should try the "Berger Strasse" which is in Bornheim and the "Leipziger Strasse" which is in Bockenheim, the University quarter. I guess it sounds a bit confusing, but with a map you´ll find everything and the connection with undergroud(U-Bahn)is very easy. Try to take trips to Berlin (a most incredible city of culture, history, friendly people) and Prague (a beautiful city with interesting buildings, romantic Charles Bridge and inexpensive) Germany is a great country

Li: I lived in Frankfurt for nearly three years and I liked it very much. <BR> <BR>The previous posters are correct with their info. <BR> <BR>My favorites were several. The "Romerplatz" is just south of the Hauptwache and easily reached on foot. It is the original town square with the first city hall ("Rathaus"), museum of modern history and the lovely St. Bartholomew's cathedral. You can climb the steeple for a fantastic view of the Romer, modern skyline and the Main River below. Frankfurt has the tallest building in Europe, the Commerzbank at 63 stories. Also visit the beautiful Alte Opera near the Hauptwache. <BR> <BR>Just across the Main River (south)on the Altebrucke is the Sachsenhausen area, which has dozens of bars and restaurants of various themes (German, Italian, Irish, etc.), all along pedestrian-only thoroughfares. It's really neat! Try the schnitzel and pils at Zum Bockchen on Rittergasse Str. and ask for "Edwin". <BR> <BR>Frankfurt also has an excellent zoo and is home to the regions' only "mountain", the "Taunus". Take a drive up and have lunch or dinner there. <BR> <BR>Close by, you can drive about 50 Km over to Rudesheim on the Rhine River and drive up to Koblenz and down the other side to Mainz, returning to Frankfurt by evening. I use to do it all the time. Great area with many castles and quaint towns. <BR> <BR>You can day-trip to Rothenburg on the Tauber by taking autobahn A3 east to A7 south and reach it in about 2-3 hours depending on traffic/conditions/prefferred speed. It is a well-preserved medeival town that should not be missed. <BR> <BR>You can also drive about 45 min. south and visit the university town of Heidelburg and see the castle there. <BR> <BR>There are other opportunities that you will learn about when you visit those websites mentioned.
