1 month budget
I am toying with the idea of spending a month over in Europe, (by myself this time) mostly Eastern Europe, been there a few times. Basically would fly into Warsaw, hop the train to Krakow, spend a long week between there, Zakopane and Slovakia (Tatry region). From there take the train or bus to Vilnius and roam around Lithuania for two weeks, head up to Riga for a few days and if time permitting, 2 days in Kaliningrad. I would like to do this in May or October. If I live on the cheap, not eat out every night, find the cheapest hotel and not indulge in too many beers, what is a reasonable budget, hotels and food, for this month? Is $75 a day too unreasonable?
What have been other peoples experiences with this long of a trip? |
I'm interested to hear the responses you get, grogger, since I have thought of doing nearly the exact same thing.

My family of 3 went all over Western Europe for a month this past summer. Airfare from the West Coast, 3 Eurail Flexi Saver Passes for 15 days in 2 months, 30 nights in 3star or better hotels, all meals, ferries, tours, and entertainment cost $12,000. Maybe you should figure on $4000 or so. Sounds like a great trip! I wish you good luck.

My husband and I are thinking of Europe March 04 for a month or two. I plan on buying Frommers Europe and selecting budget b&b's from that book. He also gives the names and addresses of budget restaurant's. |
I think if you wing it, find rooms for rent instead of hotels, you can live pretty well for $75 a day. If you stay in hotels, it may be tougher.

I think that's quite reasonable for budget travel. I've been twice to Eastern Europe for a month each time, and spent less than that. In many places, it's common for people to offer rooms in their homes or apartments for travellers. It's usually cheaper and nicer than hotels, especially if you are travelling by yourself. Check with the local tourist office or look for "zimmer frei" signs. Have a great trip! Chëers, syrin
