1 Euro (EUR) = 0.98877 US Dollar (USD) <BR><BR>says who?

The Stadtsparkesse, which is my local bank her in my German village. The dollar is declining and I am wondering how much lower it is going to go. The military banks rate today is $1=.96 euro, so that make two financial institutions who say so....

Well, today 1 euro is about 99 US cents. That's easy for euro-zone Europeans travelling to the USA, and for Americans travelling to euro-zone Europe.

I'll admit that I love a strong dollar in Europe - that my dollars bought more in Italy last year made my trip more fun. I felt like a kid in a candy store. I remember being in Barcelona (2 years ago) with a fellow NYer who was "boasting" to a Catalonian about how cheap everything was - which made me uncomfortable. A strong dollar does make me a bit more liberal in my spending, which is good for the restaurants and stores. A weaker dollar will make me somewhat conservative in my spending. Maybe on 1 serving of gelato a day instead of 3. Ultimately it means that Europe will cost a little bit more - or I'll have to do with a bit less while there. If the change is going to be too much of an economic strain on you then you probably have no business going to Europe n the first place.

Well maybe now Europeans will come visit the U.S. Strong dollar makes for good opportunities in the U.S. Also Canada would be even better since their dollar is worth even less. I say lets use the devaluation to our advantage. No it won't stop me from going to Europe!!

I was in the USA in June 1999 when one euro was US$ 1.05, and the US was very expensive for me. So the dollar has to go down quite a bit more before the US becomes a cheap destination for Europeans.
