1/2 day, full day tour companies

We will be taking a cruise of the Greek isles but aren't interested in the tours the cruise line has to offer. Are there tours on land that we can look into when we dock Or even look into before we leave for the cruise?
thanks,
AA

In most Greek islands, you don't need a tour at all. It's a waste of time and money. Just rent a scooter or ATV and explore on your own or if you want to just go to the beach. Or walk around in port if you just want to do shopping.

The best advice I can give you is to do your homework and read about the ports beforehand so you will have an idea of what interests you there. Don't spend all that money going to Europe and then not plan your time. Tours should enrich your experience, but they are rarely a requirement. The Greek islands are all pretty easily navigable, and people speak English all over the place. I've went to Greece in both 2006 and 2007, and it has become one of my very favorite places in the world.

Geez ... I'm having trouble typing again this morning. I went to Greece in both 2006 and 2007.

Thanks for the help. Now, if I can push a little further. I have a hard time sitting and reading thru a lot of info and absorbing it; we'll be in Rhodes, Delos, Mykonos, Santorini & Athens. We jsut saw "Mama Mia" and the scenery was fabulous. We're not into history but the beauty of the areas. Can you help us out with suggestions on itinerary's on these islands? I really appreciate this, as much as I love to travel, the planning of it almost makes it not worth it, so, I do appreciate any help. We will also be in Croatia, Kotor, Kusadasi. I hope I'm not asking too much, but thanks again.

If you are "not into history" then here's my take
Rhodes --just get a taxi to Lindos Beach and do some sunbathing.

Delos -- stay on the ship, you won't like Delos, it's all about history and art and Greek culture, lots of walking, no shade.

Mykonos --just wander around. Lots of shopping, cute cafes to sit in. Santorini --just go to Oia and take some pictures of the lovely view, and have a nice meal. Be sure to allow enough time to get back on your ship, there's a long line to get on the cable car.

ATHENS - take a bus tour. The "happy train" is fun too. a "Disney-style" open-side train with wheels that goes around the Plaka district; do it after 6 so u won't get stuck in traffic. Then go sit in a cafe.

That was easy! No tedious reading and absorbing. Enjoy your cruise!
