0ne day trip from Lisbon to Porto

Wondering what's the best way to reach Porto from Lisbon.
And what do we see there...
Any suggestions willbe very appreciated.

Best way is the train - https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/

book early for cheaper fares but then you may have to take the specific train you book it on- for more on Portuguese trains check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com (check their online European Planning & Rail Guide Portugal section for main things to do in Lisbon) and www.ricksteves.com.

I loved Porto but stayed there a few days - highlights to me are just the ancient looking city itself and of course the Port Wine tours along the banks of the Duoro River right in the town center. Maybe hit those before your train back as they give out samples!

I enjoyed riding the antique tram the the city to the seaside and back.

gee I do not know how long you will be in Porto but

1.The San Francisco Church is truly a must see and the nicest church in Portugal.

2. Walk across the King Luis Bridge.
3. Take the cable car ride on the other side of the bridge for great views.

4. See the Clerico Church and then climb the Clerico Tower which is beside the church

5. Since you are at the Clerico Church Square, then right across the square is the nicest bookstore in Europe..
the Lello Bookstore.

6. Two blocks away is the St. Bento Train Station ..go inside to see the murals...then

7. half a block away is the lovely 4 block long Liberation Square, that statue is of Pedro IV ( on a horse)

8. Walk down this Square admiring the ornate architecture and that is the City Hall at the end and middle of the square.

9. Thereis a funicular that you can take from the valley walkway below to the top .

10. While you are at the San Francisco Church walk to the corner and you willsee a nice Square. it has a statue in the centre of

Henry the Navigator. Right here is the Stock Exchange building, go inside here , it is really something !!!

You can get there by 8:34 or 9:34, leaving at 6 or 7.

As a city I like Porto better than Lisbon - much more old-world looking in its center - exceptionally so- sights are also in a compact area.

Porto is also a great base if you have time with wonderful day trips to gems like Guimares, Braga and the Duoro River valley.

Are you planning Porto as a day trip from Lisbon - up and back in a day - if so very possible but you cannot do everything but must pick and chose. Better to stay the night if possible.

If you want to add a Port Winery Tour, all of them are in the other bank of the river, at Gaia - Graham's is my favourite.
All the monuments Percy suggested to you are at the Old Town, in a walking distance, saving you a lot of time.
If you arrive by train, station is Campanhã, you still have to take another transport to Old Town (eg: subway).
Add Market of Bolhão to the list, also in a walking distance, and Santa Catarina Street.

Welcome to Portugal :)
