I am considering subscribing to the newsletter offered by YourOwnCabin.com. They have a weekly email that has cruises with no single supplement. Any one out there subscribed that can give me their thoughts? I travel solo and hate paying the single supplement.

I will watch this thread closely as I have also traveled solo on several cruises and hated paying so much extra! YIKES! I had not heard of this newsletter. Where did you see it advertized?

Took a look and the deals are very good, considering (if I'm understanding it correctly) that for that price you get the cabin all to your self (your own cabin).
Only drawbacks I see are that they are mostly longer cruises (shortest I saw was 7 days, most were longer) and two, you must pay for this newsletter. If anyone does subscribe I too would like to know what you think of this.

I subscribed on a Tues. and ended up booking a solo cruise by Friday of that week, but not through them. HA!

I think it costs $19.95 for 6 months. They send out an e/m almost every Monday. Once in a while they won't because they are off on a cruise of their own. May 31 there will not be one.

You have to pay through Paypal and it will automatically renew every 6 months until you tell Paypal to cancel.

There are quite a few listings and it does tell you if port charges are included. They sometimes list a cruise at a certain price for an inside and then list an oceanview for more. But sometimes only an inside or only an ocean view is listed. There are some specials for seniors only. They look like really good prices but you have to be 55 or better.

CruiseMeNow: The prices listed are higher than if you book with two people, but it is not the horrible markup the cruise lines would charge.

I think there is a sample of a newletter on their web site.

Destinations are all over the map but mainly in the Caribbean. Some listings are for Alaska (especially lately since this is the season,) Europe, Canada/New England, Hawaii.

I'll check back to this thread and see if there are any other questions. Anyone out there who has actually booked a cruise through Yourowncabin?

I used to get this when it was free and I refuse to pay for any cruise advertisements so I no longer receive the newsletter.

The specials she lists, any travel agent can get. It is just this agent calculates the price out to have your own cabin and promotes it.

If you are working with a TA, I would just have her look for any specials.

That's good information but evidently I haven't found a good TA. I asked 3 or 4 different TAs about cruising for singles and they all gave the same answer: good luck in finding something because they didn't know of any deals.

In researching my upcoming cruise to Alaska I did find that Holland America gave the best fares for a single, but I booked it through vacationstogo because they had a better rate than HAL.

I also wanted to mention that the YourOwnCabin newsletter has cruises leaving very soon and a few leaving about 6 or 9 months out. If you subscribe, read the description of the cruise carefully. The title might say "Alaska cruise in May" but in reading the description it really leaves in June. I think they need to do a better job of proofreading.

I have been subscribed www.YourOwnCabin.com newsletter since mid February and have since booked 3 cruises. The newsletter is definately worth the $19.95 subscription fee. (I think it is increasing to $24.99 in June) Better than spending hours searching the web for single occupancy specials or hoping my local travel agent would come up with something.

And I do have to disagree with qqqsal and Theresa. There are specials that you can book through any travel agent, but there are also some that you can only book with them. One of the cruises I booked was on the Celebrity Century for a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise. The oceanview was under $700 for a single cabin. They were the only one that had this special and I did check around.
