Renaissance Cruise Lines offers open seating, either in their with-reservations dining rooms, their Club dining room, or in their cafeteria-style buffet. We tried them all on our cruise from Tahiti and found them excellent. In the dining rooms, no shorts are permitted at the evening meal. Otherwise, dressing was casual -- no tuxedos or evening gowns...thank goodness. No smoking permitted anywhere aboard. Few things worse than finding yourself stuck for an entire voyage at a table filled with disagreeable dining companions, cigar- and cigarette-smokers, or whining complainers. Ren's no-kids policy was another blessing, particularly at mealtime.

Your're absolutely right in all respects. I didn't go into details earlier but I think Ren is onto something with no-smoking liners and a no-kids policy. Having said that I will say our 13 yr. old accompanied us last summer on the Med Cruise. (She was one of the last and Grandfathered in) She loved everything about the cruise (as did we). Most passengers seemed to enjoy her company (even to the point of seeking her out to talk) and she enjoyed them. However, one well-behaved teenager is great, many teenagers (even well behaved ones) would still not be a great deal. In the midst of changing a lot of their policies (a positive step)I hope Ren leaves the no-smoking, no-kids policies alone.
