Which hotel for cruise out of Miami?

We are coming in 1 day early and would like to know a good Hotel to stay at? I've heard that the Hyatt and Intercontinental are good choices. We would like to go the Bayside Marketplace for dinner that night.

Hi Vic,

You may wish to spend a few hours at Bayside since there is do much to see and do. If you wish to save money and for the convenience you can stay at the Best Western Marina Park which is directly across the street from the main entrance. You would have to give up the luxury of the Hyatt or Intercontinental.

In any event you should not take the chance on walking from the Hyatt or Intercontinental at night.

Paul

Isn't the Intercontinental adjacent to Bayside Marketplace right on the waterfront? It should be a shorter or equal walk vs. the Best Western which is across the street.

Hi Vic: A couple of years ago we went to Miami for an extra day before a cruise and we stayed in South Beach. When we reminence about our travels the time in South Beach is always a found memory. We stayed at a budget hotel called the Traymore really a art Deco treat at budget price. Karen

The Loew's Miami Beach is a great South Beach hotel and location, but it can be very expensive.

Karen, where is the Treymore located in South Beach? How noisy was it on the weekend? What were the rooms like?

We have stayed several times at Intercontinental and it is a safe 5 minute walk through a park like atmostphere to Bayside.

The hotel is gorgeous, top notch and the walk is very safe, even at night. The view of the ships is exceptional from the hotel. I strongly recommend this hotel. The Bayside area has several police officers in the mall area and surrounding. Being a female, I never felt unsafe. I have no clue what Paul is talking about.

I know several who have stayed at Best Western and will not stay there again. They had many problems. Service was bad, their room smelled, etc. .

Considering Intercontinental has some great specials for $109/night sometimes - this is definitely the hotel to stay at.

The police are in the Marketplace, not in the park. You are in Miami my dear. View or no view, I would never walk the shoreline park unless I had Hulk Hogan walking with me.

Paul

I also always stay at Intercontinental on Choppin street - it is by far my hotel of choice.

It is very safe and there are police at night in both Bayside and the park you walk through. The park is very lit. Maybe Paul should be there once to see what it is really like. It is a beautiful walk along the water.

I already have plans to stay here again in November.

I also would not stay at Best Western. We walked in that hotel and was not impressed. Last time we went, there was only a $30 difference between the 2 hotels. No competition - Intercontinental is a gorgeous 4 star hotel.

Boy, this is a great post.

This post is giving some good feed back. But it's making it difficult to choose a Hotel. I booked the Hyatt then canceled, I booked the Best Western then canceled, now I have a reservation at the Intercontinental.
My 2 hotel votes are Marriott Biscayne Bay and Intercontinental with Intercontinental having a slight edge.

We stayed at the Best Western a couple of years ago and it was cheap - that is about the only good thing I can say about it.

Peter Aug 16th, 2002 05:54 PM

And here I thought it was Hulk Hogan out walking his dog.

Of course the Intercontinental is a much better hotel than the Best Western.... Hello. I just stated that the convenience to Bayside is better at the Best Western.

I did walk down to the water and the area that one would walk to the Intercontinental at night and I found no one around. I was by myself.

What I am tring to say is that one should not venture out in Miami alone (groups only) at night (or even during the day) in Miami. You are a tourist and an easy mark. Take a cab!

Paul

I don't think the 3-5 minute walk from Intercontinental Hotel to Bayside is an "inconvenience" or out of the way.

It is a top notch hotel with Bayside just a few minutes away. I would definitely stay at this hotel verses Best Western - even if it takes me 2 more minutes to walk to Bayside. I actually loved the location.

I just found a Hyatt Regency downtown Miami for $89 on www.hotels.com for my son's honeymoon...Hyatt provides a shuttle to the cruise port and pick up as well...check it out...right on the Miami River.
