Which deck to pick?

First time to book a cruise. How do you know which deck to get? My mother and daughter have finally decided on their cruise. It is with RC going to the Southern Carib. in June. I need to book it but I know nothing about what deck is best. They want a balcony room since my Mom will probably be spending a lot of time there. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thanks.

Balcony rooms are usually on the upper decks. Look at your ship's deckplans and search out the areas you will be frequenting...dining room, show room, casino, pool, etc., then decide what's best for you. Remeber that these new ships are quite large...long in length...lots of walking involved sometimes. Is your mother up to that?

Book a deck that is sandwiched between two decks of cabins. Try not to be above or below public rooms, they can be very noisey.

Both previous posts offer good advice. To save money you can also ask for the lowest deck possible, however, luv2fly is correct that if you want a balcony, you'll be most likely on one of the upper decks and may not have many options to save $.
Most major cruise lines and websites, like icruise and cruise.com, etc. will let you look at deck plans before booking to select something that meets your needs.
The general rule is to try to pick a room towards the center of the ship as this limits some of the motion problems that affect people (sea-sickness).
Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks for the help. I was wondering if there was a better place to be to help avoid sickness so will look into the middle.
